Job Summary:

The licensed psychologist reports directly to the Senior Director of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) responsible for providing comprehensive, culturally affirming, brief individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, group & relationship therapy, as well as, consultation and referral to the university community. As educators, they are involved in the training and supervision of psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows and in psycho-educational outreach to the campus community.
As part of the larger staff in Student Life, the Staff Psychologists collaborate and cooperate across divisions and departments to create a supportive University community which encourages student learning and development in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. The mission fully supports holistic student development within a social justice framework centered in preparing students to be caring, socially responsible citizens in our global and local community, and commits to:

Full Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide comprehensive, culturally responsive and affirming individual, relationship and group therapy services to students working within a brief therapy model. Assess appropriateness of a short-term therapeutic modality for students presenting with serious psychological concerns.
  • Conduct triage assessments to assess risk, determine suitable treatment, including appropriateness for a short-term therapeutic modality and on/off campus referral needs for students whose mental health falls outside CAPS scope of services.
  • Provide crisis intervention services, including same-day evaluations of suicidal or homicidal risk, stabilization planning, coordination with campus partners, and/or facilitate off-campus hospitalization, when needed.
  • As a part of the CAPS on-call rotation, provide 24-hour crisis consultation to Office of Community Living, Public Safety, CAPS All-hours consultation line, and other departments within the division of Student Life (approximately 3 weeks/semester).
  • Outreach to callers who utilized CAPS All-hours phone consultation line, as needed.
  • Develop and participate in working relationships with other departments that share an interest in student wellness and personal development.
  • Provide consultation and mental health information for families/friends of students and University faculty, & staff.
  • Provide educational outreach services to campus groups as requested or needed, including outreach to students underrepresented at CAPS.
  • Provide multiculturally affirming and responsive supervision to psychology doctoral Interns and postdoctoral fellows. Provide 1:1 weekly meeting; review and provide constructive feedback on all intakes, progress notes and termination summaries; review and provide feedback of videotaped sessions, as needed, generate mid and end-year comprehensive written evaluations; provide crisis supervision when needed; and foster the professional, growth, m development of supervisees.
  • Annually, review applications, interview psychology interns and postdoctoral candidates, and provide feedback for the selection of CAPS trainees.
  • Provide mandated assessments, as requested
  • Create and present culturally-attuned In-service and Intercultural training seminars
  • Attend Inservice trainings and Intercultural seminars, as appropriate.
  • Participate in weekly case conference seminars.
  • Attend weekly all staff and senior staff meetings
  • Participate in University committees, task forces, and working groups that align with the mission of USF CAPS and Division of Student Life.
  • Adhere to legal and ethical principles of the profession as articulated by the American Psychological Association and the California Board of Psychology; maintain up to date case files.
  • Maintain current, valid license to practice psychology in the state of California, including obtaining the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours for each 2-year renewal cycle and to qualify to supervise doctoral level trainees.
  • Participate in staff/professional development activities.
  • Work as a member of a team regarding agency administrative functioning (providing coverage, supervision, training, developing policies, updates to CAPS website or newsletter, etc.)
  • Promote equity-centered practice and foster an inclusive, culturally informed clinical environment.
  • Perform other potential duties as assigned by CAPS Senior Director.

 

Minimum Qualifications


  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program preferred.
  • License to practice psychology in the State of California or eligible within 6 months.
  • Experience within a university counseling center and prior brief therapy experience strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to working with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact respectfully and professionally within a diverse and inclusive University environment.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively manage situations with tact, diplomacy, understanding, and fairness.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions,
  • Ability to manage multiple and complex caseloads.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • An interest in working within the context of a diverse, Jesuit Catholic university located in an urban, multicultural area.
  • Knowledge and skill with current technology

Salary Range :

$100,000-113,000, annualized commensurate with experience.
