Summary:
The Staff Content Manager – Australia Materials owns Clio's Australian legal content portfolio. This covers case law, legislation, and key secondary sources. This collection backs Clio's legal-content moat and supports Vincent AI and Clio's growth in the Australian market.
This role treats Australian legal content as a product and an infrastructure layer, not a static library. You will own strategy, coverage parity, enrichment quality, and operational resilience across Australian materials. You will build a corpus that competes with Westlaw Australia, LexisNexis Australia, and CCH (Wolters Kluwer Australia).
This role needs deep knowledge of Australian legal publishing. You will work across technical and editorial systems. You will tie content decisions directly to product outcomes and revenue.
This is a Staff-level position. It carries wider scope, deeper technical ownership, and higher standards for judgment than the Senior version of this role.
What You'll Do
1. Own the Australia Content Collection as a Product
- Set and run the roadmap for Clio's Australian legal content. Target parity with Westlaw Australia, LexisNexis Australia, and CCH in coverage, currency, and quality.
- Set KPIs for completeness, update speed, enrichment depth, and reliability.
- Drive ROI through better win rates, customer trust, retention, and revenue tied to Australian content.
2. Coverage Gap Analysis & Expansion Planning
- Keep a full coverage map across Australian case law (High Court of Australia, Federal Court, state and territory supreme courts), legislation (Federal Register of Legislation, state legislation registers), and key secondary sources.
- Rank gaps by legal authority, customer demand, competitive risk, and cost to fix.
- Lead build, buy, and license decisions with Licensing, Legal, and Corporate Development. Pick the best cost-to-value outcome each time.
3. Pipeline, Infrastructure & Technology Stewardship
- Keep a ranked backlog with Content Ops and Engineering. Put effort where it moves Australian content forward the most.
- Work with Content Ops, Data Ops, and Engineering to run and improve ingestion and enrichment pipelines, including the move to Iceberg.
- Build pipelines owned by Clio that hold up under load and scale. Cut brittle third-party links and manual steps.
- Set standards for monitoring, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery. Protect Vincent and Clio Work research features from downtime.
4. Legal Data Enrichment & Innovation
- Work with Australian Editorial and Ops teams to review and improve enrichment across case law and legislative data.
- Set metadata and structure standards, including parallel citations, legislative amendments, case summaries, and hierarchy.
- Lead enrichment work that pairs editorial skill with AI. Improve how content gets found, used, and read by downstream AI tools.
5. ROI & Performance Management
- Work with Finance and FP&A to size the financial and product impact of Australian content spend.
- Keep dashboards that track cost per document, ingestion speed, coverage parity, and enrichment reach.
- Present each quarter to the Content Committee on roadmap progress, risk, and business impact.
6. Market Intelligence & Partnerships
- Compare Clio's Australian coverage, editorial quality, and features against Westlaw Australia, LexisNexis Australia, CCH, and other regional providers.
- Find partnerships with courts, publishers, and open-data groups. Cut long-term dependency risk and open new access points.
- Track new AI and NLP methods for legal text tagging, summary writing, and merging.
7. Internal Enablement & Subject-Matter Leadership
- Act as Clio's internal expert on Australian legal materials.
- Train Product, Sales, Marketing, and Support teams on the scope of Clio's Australian content and how it stacks up against Westlaw Australia, LexisNexis Australia, and CCH.
- Keep an internal Australian Legal Materials Reference Guide covering coverage, enrichment, and market position.
8. Commercial & Go-to-Market Support
- Act as the expert voice on enterprise RFPs and major sales deals that need deep Australian legal-content knowledge.
- Work with Product Marketing and Sales Enablement to write up Australian content strengths for go-to-market materials.
- Feed competitive facts into pricing, packaging, and market-entry plans.
What you bring
- 7 -10 years in legal publishing, legal data operations, or product and content management, with a track record of owning a legal content portfolio end to end.
- Deep knowledge of the Australian legal system and legal publishing market, plus what counts as authority, currency, and discoverability in that market.
- Proven work using Australian case law and legislation to support legal practice or legal research platforms.
- A history of setting strategy and owning outcomes at a senior or staff level, not just running projects.
- Strong product ownership and the pull to lead across teams with no direct reporting line.
- Data-driven prioritization and ROI modeling, built from real numbers.
- Technical fluency across ETL pipelines, ingestion systems, and metadata structures.
- Clear talk with technical and non-technical people, including executives.
- A track record of setting standards that other teams follow
