Sobre este puesto de Sr. Unity Developer en Topgolf
Topgolf is looking for a Senior Unity Developer to join our Games team and help lead the next generation of interactive experiences played by millions of Guests across our venues.
This role sits at the intersection of game development, real-world sports, connected venues, and large-scale entertainment technology. You will lead the design and architecture of Unity-based games and experiences that run in Topgolf bays, using ball-tracking data, venue systems, real-time scoring, and engaging game mechanics to create fun, social, competitive gameplay.
You will lead a small group of engineer’s day to day, partner closely with game designers, artists, UX/UI designers, QA, product owners, and platform engineers, and act as the primary technical voice for the Games team, from roadmap through national rollout.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and optimize Unity games and interactive experiences for Topgolf venues, making key technical decisions for the systems you own.
- Design gameplay systems, UI, animation, scoring, camera behavior, effects, and game-state logic that other engineers can build on.
- Lead integration of Unity games with internal Topgolf services, APIs, tracking systems, configuration tools, and venue hardware.
- Partner with designers and product owners to translate ambiguous game concepts into playable prototypes and production-ready experiences, shaping technical feasibility early.
- Collaborate with artists and technical artists on asset pipelines, shaders, VFX, animations, and performance-conscious visuals, and set technical standards for quality.
- Drive down defect rates by improving testability, diagnosing hard-to-reproduce issues, and coaching others on debugging complex venue and platform issues.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-structured C# code and set the bar in code reviews.
- Own and improve build, deployment, and development workflows across the Games team.
- Drive performance optimization strategy for venue hardware and ensure games run reliably in a live entertainment environment at scale.
- Lead technical planning, estimation, and sprint ceremonies; help break down ambiguous initiatives into shippable work.
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers, and help maintain existing game titles while driving architecture for new product initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
- 6+ years of professional experience developing games or interactive applications in Unity, including experience owning systems and technical direction end to end.
- Strong, demonstrated C# programming skills and a track record of shipping production-quality code.
- Deep experience building gameplay systems, UI flows, game-state machines, and real-time interactive features.
- Strong understanding of Unity performance optimization, profiling, memory management, and build configuration, including diagnosing subtle performance regressions at scale.
- Experience leading or informally leading engineers: assigning work, reviewing code, and being accountable for a team's technical output.
- Proven ability to set technical direction and make architecture decisions that other engineers build on.
- Extensive experience with version control systems such as Git, including branching strategy and release management for a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent technical tradeoffs to designers, artists, QA, product, and leadership stakeholders.
- A practical, delivery-focused mindset with strong ownership of quality, stability, and maintainability across the codebase.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience shipping commercial games, location-based entertainment, arcade games, sports games, or multiplayer/social games at scale.
- Experience architecting integrations between Unity applications and REST APIs, backend services, or external hardware systems.
- Experience with Linux-based Unity builds in production.
- Experience designing or owning automated build pipelines, CI/CD, or build tooling for a team.
- Deep familiarity with game telemetry, analytics, live-ops, or configuration-driven content.
- Experience with physics-driven gameplay, ball tracking, projectile systems, or sports simulation.
- Experience supporting and operating games in production environments, including incident response and on-call leadership.
- Advanced knowledge of Unity addressables, asset bundles, localization, input systems, or custom editor tooling.
- Prior experience as a lead, tech lead, or staff-level engineer on a games or interactive entertainment team.
What Success Looks Like
- Your team ships reliable, polished Unity features and systems that are fun for Guests and easy to maintain and extend.
- You lead collaboration with design, art, QA, and product to move games from ambiguous concept to confident release.
- You raise technical quality across the portfolio by setting standards and multiplying your impact through mentorship and delegation.
- You understand that Topgolf games run in real venues, so stability, clarity, and operational reliability matter as much as gameplay, and you hold the team to that discipline.
- You bring clarity to ambiguous problems, make sound technical calls under pressure, and help the team ship better games faster.
