About the Role
Betterment is hiring a Social Media & Content Associate to support the execution of our organic social strategy across three lines of businesses (Betterment, Betterment at Work, and Betterment Advisors Solutions) and help scale how we show up across platforms. This role sits on the Brand Creative team, reporting into the Social Media Manager. We play a key role in shaping the Betterment brand and product story, translating complex financial topics into clear, engaging content that builds trust and long-term brand equity.
As a Social Media Associate, you will play a key role in bringing our content calendar to life. You’ll focus on drafting, creating and publishing content, routing posts through compliance and approval workflows, maintaining documentation, and monitoring performance. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience using design and editing tools, who is creative and able to help make complex financial topics and product launches engaging.
This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
- New York City: $89,000 - $99,500
This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.
A Day in the Life
- We make content about money and have a lot of fun doing it. You’ll help us tell the stories behind our products, our people, and why financial confidence should be accessible to everyone.
- Drive day-to-day workflow for the creation of posts, including drafting copy, coordinating or creating creative assets, editing, shooting, routing content for reviews and approvals, and maintaining accurate compliance documentation.
- Schedule and publish content using social management tools, ensuring tagging, accessibility standards, and compliance requirements are met.
- Monitor engagement and comments across channels, flagging audience questions, trends, or potential risks by responding directly or routing to the appropriate team.
- Pull weekly and monthly performance metrics to contribute to reporting and optimization efforts.
- Partnering with Marketing, Creative, and Comms, assist in packaging product launches, research, and marketing initiatives into social-ready formats including product explainers and social first stories.
- Contribute ideas during brainstorms and support timely content tied to market events, and key brand moments.
- Stay up-to-date on social trends to identify opportunities and know when to be bold (but also when to be…demure).
What We’re Looking For
- 2-3 years of experience in social media, digital marketing, or content creation; experience in financial services or other regulated industries is a plus.
- Established ability to manage day-to-day publishing across corporate social channels.
- Experience with social video, including short-form video creation and platform-native best practices.
- Excellent writing and visual communication skills, with demonstrated ability to capture and apply a consistent brand voice.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple platforms and priorities.
- Familiarity with any analytics and scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Meta, and other native platform insights).
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Captcut, Edits or similar design tools, with a comfort leveraging AI capabilities to ideate and execute content faster..
- Strong working knowledge of social best practices, including formatting, tagging, accessibility, and engagement norms.
- Collaborative mindset and comfort working cross-functionally with different teams across the organization.

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.
On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.
