Your Role at Cabot:
Cabot Corporation is seeking a Sr Lab Technical Operator to join the Battery Materials team at our Billerica, Massachusetts technical center.
As a Senior Lab Technical Operator, you will be responsible for:
Working under minimal supervision and performing a variety of standard and non-routine activities related to battery materials processing, electrode and battery cell fabrication and cell performance testing.
Preparing complex samples and runs testing equipment; and may work in a laboratory or in a pilot plant environment operating pilot line equipment.
Providing training and orientation to less-experienced operators.
This role is fully onsite in Billerica, MA.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
Operates under minimal supervision to execute a defined scope of advanced analytical, chemical, and/or physical testing and process operations using established methodologies and instrumentation.
Sets up equipment, prepares materials, and adjusts testing parameters within defined ranges.
Identifies and troubleshoots lab equipment and routine processes and contributes to problem-solving efforts including collaboration with external vendors to support a resolution
May assist in the assembly, setup, and installation of new laboratory and process equipment.
Calibrates testing equipment and performs routine maintenance, as needed.
Ensures thorough and timely execution of testing activities and may perform several tasks in parallel
Contributes to the development and review of test methods for new or existing laboratory equipment
Follows/monitors routine work requests from initiation through to completion.
Maintains clear and accurate documentation, enters data into laboratory databases, and compiles and organizes results that highlight issues or emerging trends.
Contributes to inventory control by supporting periodic audits, assisting with material clean‑ups, and helping maintain accurate records and compliance with lab standards.
Provides training and work orientation to less-experienced operators as needed. Serves as a technical resource for the team.
Adheres to all intellectual property standards throughout area of responsibility.
Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
Strictly adheres to all SH&E procedures, standards, and regulations, consistently promoting excellence in Safety
Maintains work area in compliance with safety rules and regulations. Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.
What You’ll Bring to Cabot:
Education & Experience Requirements can be one of the following combinations:
High School diploma/GED
Plus 4+ years of related lab experience
OR Associates degree in technical discipline
Plus 2+ years of related lab experience
Broad knowledge of laboratory testing equipment and protocols. Experience with electrochemical systems such as lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries and fuel cells are highly desirable.
Ability to identify out-of-range results and note unusual patterns.
Strong manual dexterity and hands‑on ability to operate laboratory equipment and, when needed, perform routine servicing.
Proficient with computers, standard office applications, and lab information management systems
Quality and precision oriented. Displays great care in observing and following testing protocols.
Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly. Ability to provide training to others.
Ability to classify and organize data in a logical and orderly way as well as plan work to ensure timely completion of assignments.
May need ability to lift heavy items and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. / 22.7 kg with assistance.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and optimize workflows to drive greater efficiency.
Collaborative attitude and inter-personal skills; willing to share information and resources with peers.
How We’ll Support Your Success:
The pay range for this role is from $61,750-$84,900. The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's skill, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, all positions are eligible for health benefits on the first day of employment, 401K savings plans, vision, dental and annual bonus based on company performance.
