JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Overview
The Sr. Clinical Lab Trainer prepares and facilitates training for new and existing clinical laboratory employees, mentors Clinical Lab Trainers, and assists the Clinical Lab Lead Trainer with advanced training responsibilities.
This role supports Abbott Cancer Diagnostics through subject matter expertise and training leadership to ensure team members are properly trained and competency requirements are met. Responsibilities include coordinating training records and reporting, developing and maintaining training materials and procedures, and conducting moderate and high-complexity competency and end-user proficiency assessments.
This role will be on the Weekend PM shift.
Saturday-Monday 8:00am-8:30pm, and Tuesday 12:00pm-4:00pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training Delivery & Facilitation
- Deliver training through: Instructor-led training Virtual training Hands-on/on-the-job training Other learning modalities as needed
- Adapt facilitation styles to meet learner needs.
- Facilitate both small and large group learning sessions.
- Create, coordinate, and administer learning exams and competency assessments.
- Evaluate training effectiveness through surveys, observations, and feedback.
Training Program Management
- Lead the creation, editing, and maintenance of training and competency materials.
- Maintain accurate training and competency records in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Coordinate accurate training data reporting and documentation practices.
- Support knowledge transfer regarding: New or revised SOPs Laboratory process changes Training assignments
Laboratory Support
- Maintain competency in assigned testing processes according to regulatory requirements.
- Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and/or post-analytical laboratory tasks as assigned.
- Complete moderate and high-complexity competency and proficiency assessments.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead assigned team projects.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with team members and stakeholders.
- Coordinate and complete administrative duties.
- Participate in and lead team meetings.
- Uphold company values of accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
- Support and comply with the Quality Management System (QMS).
Work Requirements
Schedule & Attendance
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Work designated schedules, including: Nights Weekends Overtime, as needed
Physical Requirements
- Work on a computer, tablet, or mobile device and perform typing for up to 75% of the workday.
- Sit for up to 50% of the workday.
- Stand for up to 80% of the workday.
- Lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 25% of the workday.
- Use both hands for grasping, pinching, reaching, and turning motions.
- Work onsite 100% of the time at the assigned laboratory location.
Laboratory Environment
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate laboratory equipment, including: Microscopes Microtomes Blades Strainers Pipettes
- Perform repetitive laboratory activities.
- Use near vision for viewing specimens and samples.
- Work around: Hazardous materials Tissue specimens Moving mechanical parts Lasers Heating and cooling elements High-speed centrifuges
Travel Requirements
- Travel between local Exact Sciences locations.
- Travel up to 25% of working time, including overnight and weekend travel when required.
Additional Requirement
- May be required to successfully complete an Exact Sciences Epic process assessment with a score of 80% or higher. Reasonable accommodations are available as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree in: Business Administration Education Chemical Sciences Physical Sciences Biological Sciences Clinical Laboratory Science Medical Technology Related field
OR
- High School Diploma/GED with 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of an associate degree.
Experience
- 4+ years of professional experience related to the position.
- 1+ year of clinical laboratory experience with knowledge of: HIPAA GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) GDP (Good Documentation Practices) Laboratory terminology and equipment
- 2+ years of laboratory training experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
Skills
- Strong understanding of: Instructor-led training Virtual training Technical training Hands-on/on-the-job training
- Excellent computer proficiency, including: Microsoft Teams Zoom Email Word processing Data and records management

Preferred Qualifications
CLIA Competency Qualification
Qualified to complete competency assessments under CLIA regulations through one of the following pathways:
Option 1
- Bachelor's degree in: Chemical Science Physical Science Biological Science Clinical Laboratory Science Medical Technology
- Plus: 2+ years of laboratory or laboratory education experience in moderate/high-complexity testing environments, or 1+ year performing high-complexity testing.
Option 2
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- 2+ years laboratory experience in a high-complexity testing environment.
Option 3
- Equivalent education and training, including: At least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science coursework including: 6 hours Chemistry 6 hours Biology 12 hours Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Laboratory Technology
- 3 months documented laboratory training/education.
- 2+ years experience in a laboratory performing high-complexity testing.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
- ASCP certification with the ability to maintain certification throughout employment.
