About the team and the role:

We are the Customer Support Technology Team! We build the systems that power eBay’s global customer service experience.

This team is focused on creating scalable backend services and APIs, user-facing web applications, agent tools, and AI-powered platform capabilities that improve both agent productivity and customer outcomes.

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer to join the team in Austin, TX or Salt Lake City, Utah in a hands-on individual contributor role.

In this role, you will own features end-to-end across UI, services, data, and actions, while working on workflow systems, automation platforms, and user experiences that support customer service operations at scale with a strong emphasis on coding and design, with additional time spent on collaboration, code reviews, and operational excellence.

What you will accomplish:

• Build end-to-end product capabilities across frontend and backend systems, delivering user-facing applications, backend services, and APIs that support eBay’s global customer service experience.

• Improve agent productivity and customer outcomes by enhancing agent tools, workflow engines, and automation platforms used in day-to-day support operations.

• Contribute to AI-powered platform capabilities, including orchestration layers, automation systems, and intent-to-action workflows that help evolve how support experiences are delivered.

• Increase the scalability, reliability, and performance of core systems by writing high-quality, well-tested code and driving continuous technical improvements across the stack.

• Partner closely with Product, SRE, and multi-functional engineering teams to review code, create design documentation, and strengthen engineering practices that support sustainable delivery.

• Help the team grow by reducing technical debt, driving operational improvements, participating in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation, and mentoring junior engineers or leading smaller workstreams.

What you will bring:

• 5+ years strong full stack software engineering experience, including Java 11+ and Spring Boot for backend development and JavaScript or TypeScript for modern frontend development.

• Experience building REST APIs, distributed systems, and responsive web applications using frameworks such as React, Angular, or similar technologies.

• Solid understanding of messaging systems such as Kafka, along with experience using SQL and NoSQL databases in production environments.

• Familiarity with modern software delivery practices and tools, including CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and strong testing approaches across unit, integration, and frontend layers.

• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to contribute to design discussions, code reviews, and multi-functional delivery efforts.

• Interest in or familiarity with AI-assisted development and AI-powered systems, such as LLMs, prompts, orchestration frameworks, agent workflows, or intent-driven automation; experience with customer support systems, observability tools, secure application design, or state management is a plus.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
