The Simulation and Technology Operator supports the delivery of simulation-based learning activities within Tarleton’s Clinical Learning Resource sites. This role is responsible for scheduling and coordinating site activities, preparing simulation environments (including moulage and equipment readiness), operating scenarios or skills training as assigned, supporting standardized patient encounters (including digital audio/video recording support), and restoring rooms and equipment to readiness after activities. The Operator also maintains supply readiness and provides routine simulation equipment support.

This is a 12-month staff position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours. Travel between university simulation sites will be necessary. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position reports directly to the Division of Health Science Simulation Operations and Technology Director.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare simulation rooms, equipment, and materials for scheduled learning activities, including staging simulation environments to reflect clinical or instructional scenarios (room setup, equipment placement, and basic props).

  • Operate simulation equipment during sessions (including mannequins, control systems, and related tools) using established scenarios.

  • Support faculty and facilitators during live simulations to ensure sessions run smoothly, and provide on-site support to address immediate needs.

  • Reset simulation rooms and return equipment to readiness between sessions, ensuring continuity and consistency for subsequent activities.

  • Assist with scenario setup and execution as directed by faculty or simulation leadership.

  • Maintain organization of supplies, materials, and simulation spaces, and coordinate with faculty and simulation leadership on day-of-session needs and requirements.

  • Ensure materials and environments are prepared according to the simulation schedule and assist with day-to-day simulation site workflows and readiness checks.

  • Assist with standardized patient program activities, including recruiting coordination, training support, scheduling support, and collecting participant readiness/evaluation information as assigned.

  • Support patient encounters, including digital audio/video recording setup/support, support for student debriefings, and submission/collection of evaluations as assigned.

  • Perform routine setup, basic operation, and basic upkeep of simulation equipment and tools, including maintaining and restocking supplies and supply rooms to support scheduled activities.

  • Identify and report equipment or technology issues to the appropriate team (simulation leadership and/or OITS as directed) and escalate advanced repair needs rather than performing complex repairs.

  • Provide basic guidance on the use of simulation tools and environments while maintaining a professional, organized, and supportive learning environment.

  • Follow established procedures for simulation setup, execution, and reset, and assist with documenting workflows, room setups, and standard practices.

Minimum Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3 years of experience supporting faculty in the operation of skills assessment technologies; Professional work experience with simulation-related programs and technology, particularly those technologies that are immersive, hands-on and provide an environment that emulates the space in which learners will serve for their careers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and basic database applications (e.g., for schedules, tracking, documentation, and reporting).

  • Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, learners, and patients.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to prepare rooms and materials efficiently.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage competing deadlines while supporting live simulation activities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to support operational coordination and documentation.

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment across multiple areas/locations as needed.

  • Basic understanding of clinical simulation methodologies and audio/visual technologies (including digital recording support).

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (computer systems, printers, telephones, and related tools).

  • Ability to follow defined processes and contribute to continuous improvement through feedback.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The target base annual salary range is $59,370 up to $65,307 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
