The role: 
Join our Commerce and Compliance team as a service center representative! In this role, you will help motor carriers navigate permits and weight-mile tax requirements in a call-center environment. This is a great opportunity to directly support our mission to ensure a safe & efficient transportation system by guiding carriers towards compliance and keeping commerce moving safely across the state. A day in the life:

  • Provide customer service by explaining and applying motor carrier laws, rules and procedures.
  • Issue motor carrier permits and temporary passes, ensuring compliance and eligibility.
  • Review carrier information and determine required credentials for lawful operation.
  • Assist customers with account set up, online portal access and fee payment.
  • Accurately respond to questions regarding commercial vehicle tax services.
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced, high volume call center and requires sitting or standing for long periods of time with heavy computer and phone use.
  • 6 month rotating schedule is required to ensure adequate coverage during the Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. (PT) hours of operation.

Minimum qualifications:

Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in-person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying laws, rules, regulations/procedures.

AND

Experience using computers to retrieve and input data.


Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

  • Experience with clearly explaining complex rules over the phone to a diverse audience.
  • Skilled in accurately reviewing information, determining compliance and processing transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage frequent interruptions and remain calm and professional in difficult or escalated situations.
  • Ability to reconcile daily financial transactions without error.
