The transportation infrastructure sector in the West of England is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and AtkinsRéalis is leading projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including active travel initiatives, rail upgrades as well as extensive mass transit and public transport corridor enhancements. We are also working closely with our clients to support their digital transformation and are developing new initiatives to help them deliver on their Net Zero commitments.

To be based in the Bristol office, we are seeking a talented and experienced individual to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base. AtkinsRéalis are the Framework Consultants for West of England Combined Authority (Bristol CC, B&NES, South Gloucs), Herefordshire County Council, and Hampshire County Council, meaning that you will have the opportunity to influence your local region. Our regional team also includes the Cardiff office who serve clients across Wales. Within the wider business we also contribute to projects at a national scale for many other local and national government bodies and the private sector.

Your role

• We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who wishes to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business.
• We cover all aspects of multidisciplinary planning, design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support.
• Our transport planners support our clients in finding the best outcomes for their transport challenges.
• We develop innovative solutions and advise on everything from project costs and benefits to the best options to unlock investment.

About you

We are keen to speak to individuals with a background in transport planning to join our Bristol team. Applicants will be flexible, self‑motivated, and able to demonstrate capability in the following areas:

• Strong analytical, numeracy, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and support evidence‑based decision making.
• Excellent communication and writing skills, with experience engaging internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Confident team player, capable of working collaboratively and independently.

Successful candidates should demonstrate relevant technical experience commensurate with their level of experience in areas such as:

• Development of transport strategies and plans.
• Scheme appraisal and business case preparation.
• Transport scheme development.
• Development planning.

Security clearance

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
