Position Overview:

Reporting to the Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting Director, the Senior Technical Accountant, Derivatives and Trading, is responsible for researching, drafting, and communicating technical accounting policy related to derivatives under US GAAP. This position will have significant integration across the finance and trading organizations and require partnering with the company’s external audit firm and various members of management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performs technical accounting research on all derivative related items, including preparation of technical memos, determination of financial reporting and disclosure impacts, and internal management reporting.
• Works with Derivatives accounting, SOX, Trading, Strategy and Derivative organizations to understand all new derivative trading activity and develop new processes and controls to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of derivative activity.
• Works on projects to implement newly issued accounting pronouncements relating to derivatives.
• Prepares training programs to support learning and development initiatives related to derivative accounting under ASC 815 for both Controllership and other organizations across the Company.
• Collaborates with internal partners on consistent and appropriate application of financial accounting policies and procedures related to derivatives and trading activity.
• Assists with cross-functional projects related to derivative accounting initiatives.
• Assists in maintaining and improving SOX compliance as it relates to derivative and technical accounting processes
• Identifies efficiencies and recommends ways to improve processes and standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• CPA required
• Minimum of 6 years relevant experience
• A mix of public accounting and industry experience
• 2 years of big 4 audit experience (strongly preferred)
