The App Test team builds the test automation platform that enables Roblox engineers to deliver reliable, high-quality experiences across the Roblox Universal App. Our systems span test frameworks, execution and orchestration, device-farm infrastructure, debugging tools, dashboards, and the supporting infra that power end-to-end testing across mobile, desktop, console, and VR.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the App Test team, you will design, build, and scale tools and services that power the test automation lifecycle. You will work on foundational systems that enable engineers to author, select, execute, debug, maintain, and triage tests efficiently, while helping evolve our platform toward an AI-native testing experience.
You will have the opportunity to solve complex engineering problems across distributed systems, cross-platform automation, developer tooling, and AI orchestration. Your work will help teams identify regressions earlier, improve release confidence, and deliver software faster without compromising quality.
You will:
- Build and scale test automation infrastructure: Design, implement, and evolve the frameworks, runners, orchestration services, device-farm integrations, and supporting infrastructure that power reliable end-to-end testing across Roblox's supported platforms
- Advance the AI-native test lifecycle: Develop intelligent tooling that improves test authoring, selection, execution, maintenance, and failure triage, using AI to reduce manual effort and make testing more accessible and effective
- Develop test orchestration and intelligence: Build systems that connect test planning, test selection, execution, and failure analysis, enabling more efficient use of test infrastructure and faster feedback to engineers
- Improve test reliability and debugging: Build tools and services that improve test stability, observability, failure diagnosis, and maintenance across a large and evolving test ecosystem
- Shift quality earlier in the development lifecycle: Integrate automated quality checks and actionable test feedback into development and CI/CD workflows to help teams identify and resolve issues earlier
- Drive projects end to end: Take ownership of technical initiatives from problem definition, design, and implementation through production deployment, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement
- Collaborate across engineering: Partner with application, platform, QA, infrastructure, and developer productivity teams to develop scalable solutions that address the needs of engineers across Roblox
You have:
- Software engineering experience: Experience designing, building, testing, and operating production software, with a track record of solving complex engineering problems in large codebases
- Programming fundamentals: Strong programming skills in C++, Python, Go, or another modern programming language, with an emphasis on writing maintainable, reliable, and well-tested code
- Automation and infrastructure experience: Experience building test automation frameworks, developer tools, distributed systems, CI/CD infrastructure, or other engineering platforms
- Systems and architecture: Experience designing and evolving services or frameworks, with an understanding of scalability, reliability, observability, and operational excellence
- Cross-platform engineering: Experience developing or supporting systems across multiple platforms or environments, such as Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, or iOS
- Ownership and collaboration: Ability to take ownership of projects, work effectively across teams, communicate technical decisions clearly, and deliver solutions that improve the experience of engineers who use your tools
Nice to have
- Experience with cross-platform test automation frameworks such as Appium, Selenium, or comparable tools, including mobile, desktop, or game testing
- Experience building CI/CD, release engineering, developer productivity, or internal platform systems
- Experience applying LLMs, agents, or other AI techniques to developer tools, including test authoring, intelligent test selection, test maintenance, failure analysis, or automated debugging
- Experience working with large-scale software development workflows and integrating automated quality checks into the development lifecycle
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
