Why This Role Matters
The RNE (Registration, Numbers and Enablement) group within Vonage's Foundation Engineering department works across four core product domains: Registration, Numbers, Number Intelligence, and Know Your Customer (KYC). Our senior engineers play a key role in driving technical quality and platform evolution, working on a modern cloud-native stack across both greenfield and existing systems.
What You Will Do
- Design and develop highly concurrent, distributed backend services with a focus on high availability;
- Take solid ownership of architectural contributions, driving technical decisions within and across teams;
- Lead performance optimisation efforts and proactively diagnose complex system issues;
- Design, develop and test new features, setting a high bar for quality and reliability;
- Support the release and documentation of developed features;
- Define and champion coding standards and development processes;
- Mentor and support more junior engineers within the team;
- Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
What You Will Bring
Essential:
- Strong programming skills in Go (Golang) or deep experience with JVM technologies (Java/Spring Boot) and a strong desire to move to Go;
- Proven experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale;
- Solid experience with highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems;
- Solid experience contributing to and driving architectural decisions;
- Experience with containerised applications and cloud-native environments;
- Experience profiling and optimising performance at scale;
- Experience building REST/HTTP based services;
- Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis);
- Strong test suite design skills, including Unit, Integration and Smoke tests, enabling safe promotion of code to production without manual intervention;
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical problems and solutions clearly.
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience with AWS (SQS, SNS, DynamoDB), Kafka, Kubernetes or Terraform;
- Understanding of Continuous Delivery in cloud environments;
- General understanding of the telecommunications industry.
