What You’ll Do

As a Senior Software Engineer (with backend specialization), you will play a pivotal role within the GCI team.

In this role, you will:

• Develop and maintain robust, high-performance Java-based APIs
• Design and implement cloud-native backend services on AWS across serverless (Lambda, API Gateway) and containerized (ECS/EKS) platforms
• Architect and evolve distributed, event-driven systems for high-throughput processing, resilience, and scalability
• Lead technical design discussions, code reviews, and production troubleshooting to uphold engineering excellence
• Define and improve CI/CD pipelines, observability, and deployment strategies for reliable cloud delivery
   

What You’ll Bring

• Have 9+ years of hands-on experience in backend engineering.
• Expert-level proficiency with Java (21+), modern Java frameworks and libraries, and deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Strong experience with AWS services such as EKS, ECS, Lambda, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, and API Gateway.
• Proven experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and RESTful APIs at scale.
• Experience working with relational databases (SQL) and understanding how to optimise queries for performance.
• Working experience with Git and familiarity with Jenkins pipelines.
• Working experience with observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or OpenTelemetry.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and a drive to understand the “under the hood” mechanics of complex backend systems.
• Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor) to enhance productivity and streamline workflows.
