About Renaissance
When you join Renaissance®, you join a global leader in pre-K–12 education technology! Renaissance’s solutions help educators analyze, customize, and plan personalized learning paths for students, allowing time for what matters—creating energizing learning experiences in the classroom. Our fiercely passionate employees and educational partners have helped drive phenomenal student growth, with Renaissance solutions being used in over one-third of US schools and in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Every day, we are connected to our mission by exemplifying our values: trust each other, win together, strive for the best, own our actions, and grow and evolve.
The mission of the Platform Extracts team is to provide a reliable, flexible, and accessible data pipeline to deliver high-quality data from any Renaissance product to our customers and partners so they can See Every Student. We provide the backbone for secure data delivery from Renaissance customers to third party partners such as state offices of education and other ed-tech vendors. We’re seeking an experienced Software Engineer to deepen our data delivery infrastructure in support of external partnerships, including by developing and optimizing data delivery methods, data transformation orchestration, and customer team tooling.
In this role as a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
• Own our new end-to-end Ed-Fi Assessment Outcomes API delivery system — data transformation, pipeline execution, and customer-facing configuration tooling
• Optimize our AWS-based file delivery infrastructure
• Support and enhance internal and customer-facing UIs
• Contribute to Ed-Fi certification compliance: maintain field mappings, support certification testing, and evolve the system as the standard develops
• Design and maintain custom data transformation models that meet the specific reporting requirements of our partnerships
• Build and improve data quality tooling so customers and partners can trust the data they receive
• Mentor teammates and help establish engineering patterns for a growing data delivery domain
For this role as a Senior Software Engineer, you should have:
• This position requires 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with an emphasis on cloud-based data delivery and integration.
• Advanced SQL and experience with modern ELT tooling (e.g., dbt)
• Experience designing, operating, and optimizing cloud-based data ETL pipelines that deliver data to external API endpoints and file systems
• Experience delivering data in an industry standard specification and/or robustly maintaining data contracts
• Experience building efficient, high utility internal tooling for customer-facing teams
• Experience with data quality tooling, error reporting, or observability for data pipelines
• Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with product and customer-facing teams
• Ability to lead and mentor others
For This Role You Should Be:
• Domain-curious: You enjoy understanding WHY data matters to the people using it — not just moving it
• Ownership-oriented: You take pride in the systems you maintain and proactively improve them
• Collaborative: You work comfortably across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to navigate ambiguous problems
• Adaptable: As customer or stakeholder requirements shift you iterate quickly and welcome evolving specifications
Bonus Points For:
• Experience with Snowflake as a data source
• Experience with the Ed-Fi data spec as a consumer or provider
• Familiarity with serverless or event-driven architectures on AWS
• Background in K-12 education data or state reporting
• Experience building or maintaining self-serve customer tooling for data integration management using modern UI frameworks
• Enthusiasm for working in a remote and geographically distributed Agile team using DevOps practices and AI tooling
