About the Role
The Senior Revenue Accountant is responsible for owning core revenue and commission accounting for a SaaS business, including related reconciliations, accruals, and reporting. This role serves as the in-house expert on revenue recognition, ensuring accurate financial reporting under U.S. GAAP, and maintains strong controls across key revenue and payroll-related accounts. The position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, solid system skills, and the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced close calendar.

Reports to:  Assistant Controller

Responsibilities

• Manage SaaS revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, serving as the internal subject-matter expert on revenue recognition matters.
• Review customer contracts and approve sales orders for accurate revenue treatment and document deal terms in accordance with ASC 606.
• Partner with internal teams to validate contract details, go-live dates, and revenue-related reporting requirements.
• Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations for deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, accrued commission, and other revenue-related accruals.
• Capitalize, amortize, and reconcile internally developed software costs in accordance with ASC 350-40.
• Support internal and external audits, including providing reconciliations, account analyses, and documentation as requested.
• Administer sales commission plans in Everstage, including plan setup, Salesforce data review, monthly payout calculations, and resolving sales team inquiries.
• Maintain and reconcile related deferred commissions schedule, including monthly amortization.
• Analyze monthly revenue results and explain key P&L variances.
• Prepare and reconcile payroll accounting, including deferred implementation costs.
• Own assigned revenue and commission-related components of the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Identify and drive process improvements across revenue, commission, and related close activities.

 Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a corporate setting (private or public), including revenue accounting.
• Demonstrated experience applying ASC 606 in a SaaS or subscription-based business.
• Experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP system.
• Experience with sales commission calculations and a commission management system.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, large dataset management); proficiency with Word.
• Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven close environment.
• Sound judgment and independent problem-solving ability.

Nice to Have

• Direct experience with Everstage or another commission management platform.
• Experience with ASC 350-40 (capitalized software costs).
• CPA or CPA candidate.
• Experience with Salesforce or another CRM
