Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Quality Manager is an on-site leadership role responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the site's Quality Management System (QMS) while providing strong, hands-on Quality support to manufacturing operations. This position leads the site Quality team and is accountable for maintaining compliance, driving Quality performance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and Quality ownership throughout the organization.

The Quality Manager provides leadership and oversight for key Quality System activities, including audits, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), complaints, nonconformances, and related Quality processes, while ensuring that the Quality organization is actively engaged on the manufacturing floor.

Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other site functions, the Quality Manager and their team will identify and resolve Quality issues, improve manufacturing performance, achieve Quality KPIs, reduce recurring problems, and strengthen processes that consistently deliver products meeting customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management System

  • Lead and maintain effective site Quality System processes in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies and procedures.
  • Provide oversight and governance for CAPA, complaints, nonconformances, deviations, change control, and other applicable Quality System processes.
  • Ensure Quality System records are appropriately investigated, documented, risk-assessed, and completed within established timelines.
  • Monitor Quality System health and identify systemic trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented and verified for effectiveness.
  • Support and/or lead Quality Management Review activities and provide meaningful insights into site Quality performance.

Audits & Compliance

  • Lead site readiness for internal, customer, regulatory, and certification audits.
  • Coordinate audit preparation, execution, responses, and closure of resulting observations or corrective actions.
  • Maintain a state of continuous inspection and audit readiness rather than relying on event-based preparation.
  • Partner with site leadership and functional teams to identify compliance risks and ensure timely remediation.
  • Promote sustainable compliance practices that are integrated into day-to-day operations.

Manufacturing & Shop Floor Quality

  • Maintain a visible and active Quality presence on the manufacturing floor, ensuring the Quality team understands processes, risks, and operational challenges firsthand.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing leadership and operators to resolve Quality issues quickly while maintaining appropriate Quality and compliance standards.
  • Ensure timely Quality support for production issues, nonconforming material, investigations, disposition activities, and manufacturing-related Quality decisions.
  • Drive proactive identification of Quality risks before they result in product failures, customer complaints, or production disruptions.
  • Support manufacturing teams in developing robust processes, controls, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Promote Quality at the source and strengthen ownership of Quality across manufacturing operations.

Quality Performance & KPIs

  • Establish, monitor, and drive performance against site Quality KPIs and operational Quality objectives.
  • Use data and trend analysis to identify emerging risks, recurring failure modes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and execute recovery plans when Quality metrics are not meeting expectations.
  • Partner with Operations and other functions to improve key performance indicators such as first-pass yield, scrap/rework, nonconformance rates, CAPA effectiveness and closure, complaint performance, audit findings, and cost of poor quality, as applicable.
  • Communicate Quality performance, risks, priorities, and actions effectively to site leadership.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives that improve product quality, process capability, compliance, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Drive structured problem solving and effective root cause analysis using appropriate methodologies and Quality tools.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and strengthen Quality processes while maintaining compliance and effectiveness.
  • Use Quality data and manufacturing insights to prioritize improvement efforts based on risk and business impact.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, and other functions to reduce recurring defects, variation, waste, and Quality-related disruptions.
  • Promote a culture that moves beyond correcting individual issues toward preventing recurrence and eliminating systemic causes.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop the site Quality team to ensure strong technical capability, accountability, and business partnership.
  • Establish clear expectations, priorities, and performance objectives for the team.
  • Ensure appropriate Quality coverage and support for manufacturing operations.
  • Develop team members' capabilities in Quality Systems, manufacturing Quality, problem solving, risk management, and continuous improvement.
  • Create a culture where Quality team members are comfortable working both within formal Quality Systems and directly alongside manufacturing teams.
  • Foster collaboration, transparency, urgency, and fact-based decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Quality within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems and key Quality processes, including CAPA, complaints, nonconformances, investigations, and audits.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting manufacturing operations and resolving shop-floor Quality issues.
  • Experience leading, developing, or providing direction to Quality professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective action, risk assessment, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze Quality data, establish priorities, and drive measurable improvement against KPIs.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and influencing skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple functions and organizational levels.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain a significant on-site presence and regularly engage directly with manufacturing operations.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable ISO, FDA, GMP, or other relevant regulatory and Quality standards.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Quality certification such as ASQ Certified Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Six Sigma certification, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience leading successful regulatory, customer, or certification audits.

Leadership Expectations

The successful Quality Manager will be a visible, engaged leader who balances compliance with operational execution. This role requires someone who can move effectively between Quality System governance, leadership discussions, data analysis, and direct engagement on the manufacturing floor.

The Quality Manager is expected to:

  • Own the Quality system while ensuring it enables effective and compliant operations.
  • Be present where the work happens, understanding manufacturing processes and Quality risks firsthand.
  • Lead through data, using KPIs and trends to focus resources on the highest-impact opportunities.
  • Drive issues to sustainable resolution, addressing root causes rather than symptoms.
  • Build Quality ownership across the site, reinforcing that Quality is a shared responsibility rather than solely the responsibility of the Quality function.
  • Develop a high-performing Quality team that is responsive, technically capable, collaborative, and focused on both compliance and operational excellence.

Measures of Success

Success in this position will be demonstrated through:

  • Effective and compliant Quality Management System performance.
  • Timely and effective CAPA, complaint, investigation, and audit-action closure.
  • Strong audit and inspection readiness.
  • Achievement and sustained improvement of site Quality KPIs.
  • Reduced recurring Quality issues, defects, scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality.
  • Improved manufacturing process capability and Quality performance.
  • Effective and timely Quality support to manufacturing operations.
  • Successful execution of continuous improvement initiatives with measurable results.
  • Increased Quality ownership and problem-solving capability throughout the site.
  • Development and retention of a capable, engaged, and high-performing Quality team.
