The Role 

We are seeking to connect with experienced professionals for anticipated sports and recreation project opportunities. While specific project requirements may evolve, these engagements are expected to support the delivery of new and existing facilities. These could include sports stadiums, arenas and ice facilities, aquatic centres, multi-use recreation and community centres, fieldhouses, and outdoor sport and park amenities. Experience delivering sports, recreation, or community facility projects is strongly preferred, and experience with government or municipal clients is a strong asset. 

You will act as a trusted advisor to clients across the public and private sectors, navigating complex stakeholder environments while supporting the delivery of facilities that improve community access, user experience, building performance, and long-term asset resilience.  

Important: Please note this opportunity is being offered as a consulting and/or fixed-term contract engagement and is not a permanent full-time employee position. 

What You’ll Do 

• Lead and deliver sports and recreation facility projects, ensuring strong outcomes across scope, schedule, budget, risk, and quality 
• Manage project delivery from planning and design through construction, for both new facilities and upgrades to facilities that remain in operation 
• Work closely with client stakeholders, facility operators, and user groups to align project activities with operational needs and minimize disruption to programming, seasonal operations, and events 
• Oversee coordination of consultants and contractors, including architects, engineers, and construction and specialty trade partners 
• Translate technical and project details into clear updates, recommendations, and reporting for clients and stakeholders 
• Identify and manage project risks, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, accessibility requirements, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations 
• Support governance, decision-making, and successful transition of newly constructed or upgraded facilities into operational use, including commissioning and facility turnover 

What You’ll Bring 

• 8–10+ years of project management experience, including end-to-end delivery of new builds, renovations, expansions, or upgrades for sports, recreation, or community facilities such as arenas, stadiums, aquatic centres, or recreation centres 
• Experience with municipal, provincial, or broader public-sector clients considered a strong asset; experience with institutional, not-for-profit, private-sector, or public-private partnership owners is also highly valued 
• Familiarity with specialized facility systems, such as ice plant and refrigeration, pool mechanical and water treatment, sports lighting, or field and turf infrastructure, considered an asset 
• Working knowledge of construction contracts, tendering and procurement processes (including public-sector procurement), and site supervision within active or occupied facilities 
• Confident client-facing communicator with the ability to provide clear updates, recommendations, and guidance to public- and private-sector stakeholders 
• Calm, solutions-focused leader experienced in coordinating consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams in fast-paced, high-impact environments 
• Ability to work on-site at client and project sites across Alberta as required by project needs
