Senior Manager – Portfolio Risk

Location: Hybrid based from either Manchester, Warrington or Derby
Salary: We anticipate paying a salary in the £75,300.00 - £98,800.00  range

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Risk, the Portfolio Senior Risk Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading risk management across Rolls-Royce SMR's portfolio of programmes.

This is a strategic leadership position within the PMO, working across executive, programme, engineering and enabling functions to ensure a robust and consistent approach to risk management. You will be responsible for driving the continued maturity of the risk management framework, providing expert assurance across programme risk activities, and supporting informed decision-making through effective risk analysis, reporting and quantitative assessment.

The role also provides the opportunity to influence the future of risk management through the adoption of advanced analytics, digital tools and AI-enabled approaches to risk insight and decision support.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading risk management activities across a portfolio of complex programmes and projects.
  • Managing and developing a team of Risk Managers, Senior Risk Analysts and Risk Champions within a matrix environment.
  • Promoting the consistent application and continuous improvement of the company's risk management framework and processes.
  • Acting as the subject matter expert for risk management, providing assurance, guidance and challenge where appropriate.
  • Supporting and deputising for the Head of Risk when required.
  • Working collaboratively with Enterprise Risk colleagues to ensure effective escalation and management of principal risks.
  • Overseeing the administration and effectiveness of the Risk Management Information System (RMIS).
  • Delivering portfolio and programme risk reporting to senior stakeholders and executive leadership teams.
  • Leading Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) activities across cost and schedule risk disciplines.
  • Supporting the development of enhanced risk analytics, data-driven insights and AI-enabled risk management capabilities.

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking an experienced risk professional with a strong background in delivering risk management within complex programme environments.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Extensive experience applying recognised risk management frameworks and best practice, such as ISO 31000 and major programme governance methodologies.
  • Proven experience leading risk management activities on large-scale infrastructure, engineering, nuclear, construction or similarly complex programmes.
  • Strong expertise in Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), including cost and schedule risk assessment.
  • Experience working across project controls disciplines, including risk, planning, change and performance management.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at executive, programme and delivery team levels.
  • Experience leading teams and fostering collaboration within matrix organisations.
  • The ability to translate complex risk information into clear, actionable insight for decision-makers.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience within the nuclear sector or other major regulated infrastructure programmes.
  • Professional Risk Management qualification such as IRM Certificate/Diploma or equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, including IRM, ALARM or APM.
  • Experience using quantitative risk tools such as Safran Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis, @Risk or ModelRisk.
  • Experience applying data analytics and emerging AI technologies to support risk management and programme performance.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Formal Risk Management qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience working within major engineering, infrastructure or nuclear programmes.
