WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US
The AI & Insights area is building the foundation for reliable, intelligent operations of SimCorp's offerings. When something breaks in our systems, we need to know immediately, and our teams need to quickly be able to understand the root cause. Ideally, we see the signals in advance, initiate self-healing, and avoid interruptions for our clients. Observability and Monitoring are how we enable that.
The Observability team owns the data foundation: a standard, Open Telemetry-based way for every SimCorp system to emit logs, traces, and metrics, collected on a central Operational Data Platform that SREs, monitoring, and AI agents can all use. The Monitoring team owns what we do with that data: one governed monitoring standard with a single alert funnel, a standard alert payload, and one Grafana instance for dashboards and alert rules. Together, the two teams are the data and signal layer for AIOps: AI-assisted root-cause analysis, proactive resolution, and self-healing workflows.
You will partner closely with the Product Managers for Observability and Monitoring and with the architect to turn the roadmap into delivery, and you will report directly to the Senior Director of Engineering. You will also be part of the AI & Insights leadership team, contributing to the broader deliveries and growth of the area.
WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Team leadership and development
- Lead and grow the Observability and Monitoring teams, distributed across multiple locations, creating clear priorities and a supportive, engaged culture
- Develop individual engineers through regular 1:1s, coaching, and honest feedbac
- Build one coherent engineering group across two domains, with the right composition, skills, and no single-person dependencies
- Hire and onboard new engineers into fast-moving workstreams as scope grows
Delivery and operations
- Own delivery of the Observability and Monitoring roadmaps
- Hold a high bar on quality, security, and operational readiness
- Manage day-to-day prioritisation, capacity, and engineering health across both teams, keeping delivery and engagement strong
- Remove blockers before they slow the team down, including the ones involving other teams
Stakeholder and cross-team collaboration
- Partner with the Product Managers to translate product strategy into an executable delivery plan
- Work with the architect on technology direction, from the OpenTelemetry data plane to the alerting and visualisation stack
- Collaborate with SREs, Operations, SaaS reliability, and the product development teams who instrument their code and consume the data, and translate technical work into clear updates for non-technical stakeholders
- Align with the Senior Director of Engineering on priorities and risks
Strategy and growth
- Help shape SimCorp's observability, monitoring, and AIOps strategy as scope expands from collecting data to automated root-cause analysis and self-healing
- Anticipate where the teams need to grow in skills, headcount, and tooling, and advocate for it
- Bring an informed point of view on measuring what matters, such as monitoring maturity, SLOs, and incident detection and resolution times, rather than coverage alone
- Make AI agents part of how the teams work and how SimCorp operates, with people orchestrating, reviewing, and holding the bar.
WHAT WE VALUE
Ownership and independence You take responsibility without being told to, dig in when things are unclear, and are comfortable deciding with incomplete information and following through.
Management experience You have led engineering teams before, ideally in a platform context, with a genuine track record of accountability for team outcomes and engagement.
Technical grounding in observability and monitoring engineering You have a background in software or platform engineering and engage comfortably with telemetry (logs, traces, and metrics), instrumentation standards such as Open Telemetry, alerting, SLOs, and incident response. You are curious about how AI can speed up root-cause analysis and operations. You will not write production code, but you understand what your engineers build, ask the right questions, and spot when something is off.
Communication clarity You write and speak in plain, precise English, can explain a complex platform decision to a non-technical stakeholder, and represent your team with confidence in senior forums.
