OVERVIEW:

The Senior Manager, Safety is responsible for leading the execution and advancement of safety strategy across Alo’s distribution center network. This role provides leadership and oversight for safety programs, processes, performance, and safety teams while partnering closely with distribution center and cross-functional leadership. The Senior Manager balances strategic program development with hands-on field leadership to establish consistent standards, mitigate operational risk, strengthen safety ownership, and build scalable systems that support Alo’s continued growth. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the execution of Alo’s safety strategy across the distribution center network, ensuring consistent standards and practices while accounting for site-specific operational needs. 

• Partner with the Director of Safety & Operations Training to develop, implement, and continuously improve scalable safety programs, standards, processes, and systems. 

• Lead, coach, and develop safety leaders across the distribution center network, establishing clear expectations, priorities, and accountability for safety performance. 

• Maintain a strong field presence across distribution centers to assess risk, coach leaders, identify improvement opportunities, and support operational execution. 

• Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted safety partner to Distribution Operations and senior leadership. 

• Proactively identify workplace hazards and operational risks and partner with leaders to develop and implement sustainable corrective actions. 

• Establish and maintain effective risk assessment, inspection, audit, and corrective action management processes across the network. 

• Provide safety leadership and guidance for material handling equipment, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, automation, facilities, emergency response, material flow, and other distribution center operations. 

• Provide safety oversight during new site openings, expansions, peak periods, automation initiatives, operational changes, and other higher-risk business activities. 

• Lead and oversee incident reporting, investigation, root-cause analysis, escalation, documentation, and corrective action processes. 

• Analyze incidents, near misses, hazards, field observations, and safety performance data to identify trends, emerging risks, and prevention opportunities. 

• Establish and monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and develop reporting and dashboards that provide actionable visibility to distribution center and executive leadership. 

• Ensure distribution centers maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local occupational health and safety requirements, including OSHA requirements. 

• Support regulatory inspections, inquiries, investigations, recordkeeping, and corrective actions as required. 

• Partner with Distribution Operations, People/HR, Facilities, Engineering, Asset Protection/Security, Legal, and other stakeholders to integrate safety into operational planning and decision-making. 

• Communicate safety risks, performance, priorities, and recommendations clearly and effectively to frontline, site, and senior leadership. 

• Support the continued development and evolution of Alo’s safety organization, programs, and capabilities as the distribution network scales. 

• Travel regularly throughout the distribution center network to provide onsite leadership and support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Operations, or a related field. 

• 7–10+ years of progressive occupational health and safety experience, preferably within distribution, warehousing, fulfillment, logistics, manufacturing, or another high-volume operational environment. 

• 3–5+ years of people leadership experience, including experience leading and developing safety professionals and/or multi-site teams. 

• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and scaling safety programs across complex operations. 

• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable occupational health and safety principles and standards. 

• Experience conducting incident investigations, root-cause analyses, risk assessments, audits, inspections, and corrective action management. 

• Demonstrated ability to analyze safety data, identify trends and risk, and translate findings into actionable business strategies. 

• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills. 

• Demonstrated ability to influence and build effective relationships across multiple functions and organizational levels. 

• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while balancing strategic priorities with hands-on operational support. 

• Ability and willingness to travel 50% or more, including frequent travel to distribution center locations. 

• Experience leading safety across multiple distribution centers, fulfillment centers, warehouses, or geographically dispersed operations strongly preferred. 

• Experience supporting new distribution center launches, expansions, automation, peak operations, or significant operational change preferred. 

• Experience supporting large hourly, temporary, agency, or contingent workforces preferred. 

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent professional safety certification highly preferred; ASP, CIH, CHMM, or other recognized safety/EHS credentials are also valued.
