Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Compliance leads Deriva Energy’s NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Operations & Planning (O&P) compliance programs, as well as compliance and coordination activities involving ISOs, RTOs, and PUCs. This role provides strategic direction, regulatory judgment, and team leadership across the company’s wind, solar, and storage fleet. This role owns the design, execution, and continuous improvement of the compliance program, setting priorities, managing risk, meeting regulatory deadlines and ensuring Deriva’s practices meet or exceed evolving NERC standards. This role works closely with engineering, IT, Cyber, Legal and Procurement to effectively manage regulatory compliance across Deriva Energy.

Reporting to senior compliance or regulatory leadership, this individual serves as a primary point of contact for NERC audits and regulatory inquiries, advises executive leadership on compliance posture and emerging regulatory risk, and builds the people, processes, and controls needed to scale the program as the fleet grows. The Director level scope carries department wide accountability and executive advisory responsibility; the Senior Manager-level scope carries multi-team/program ownership with strong influence on strategic planning. The selected candidate will be hired at the aligned level based on experience, interview performance, and internal alignment. Title, responsibilities, and compensation will reflect the appropriate level.

This position is located at Deriva Energy Headquarters based in Charlotte, NC.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and lead Deriva Energy’s NERC O&P compliance strategy, translating regulatory requirements into practical, auditable programs across the operating fleet

• Serve as the primary interface with NERC, Regional Entities, and internal executive leadership during audits, self-certifications, and regulatory inquiries

• Build, mentor, and manage a team of compliance analysts and specialists, setting goals, developing talent, and fostering a strong culture of compliance

• Direct the review and approval of compliance documentation, evidence packages, and audit materials, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and defensibility

• Design and maintain the compliance risk management framework, including risk assessments, control testing, and mitigation planning for O&P standards

• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Legal, and IT leadership to embed compliance requirements into business processes, systems, and asset operations

• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action planning for compliance findings or potential violations, driving issues to timely resolution

• Own compliance training strategy, ensuring internal stakeholders understand obligations and maintain audit-ready practices year-round

• Present compliance program status, risk exposure, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and, as needed, the board

• Drive continuous improvement of compliance tools, systems, and reporting infrastructure to scale with fleet growth

• Monitor evolving NERC standards and regulatory trends, assessing impact and adjusting the compliance program proactively

• Monitor evolving ISO, RTO and PUC requirements and implement steps to meet compliance requirements

• Respond to incoming RFI’s for ISO, RTO, PUC and meet requested deadlines and/or request appropriate extensions

• Manage program budget, vendor relationships, and resource planning as applicable to the compliance function

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for Senior Manager

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field

• Six (6) years or more of relevant NERC compliance or regulatory experience, including experience with direct reports preferred

• In lieu of bachelor’s degree, high school diploma/GED AND eleven (11) years or more of related work experience

Basic Qualifications for Director

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field

• Eight (8) years or more of relevant NERC compliance or regulatory experience, including demonstrated people leadership
• One (1) year or more of direct reports

• In lieu of bachelor’s degree, high school diploma/GED AND thirteen (13) years or more of related work experience

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering, business, or related field
• One (1) year or more of direct reports

• Deep working knowledge of NERC O&P Standards and demonstrated success leading compliance programs in a generation or utility environment

• Proven track record managing NERC audits, self-reports, and regulatory relationships

• Prior people-management experience, with a track record of building and developing high-performing compliance teams

• Strong executive presence, with experience advising senior leadership and/or board-level stakeholders on regulatory risk

• Applied experience with enterprise risk management frameworks and internal controls

• Exceptional program management, multitasking, and cross-functional influence abilities

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

Working Conditions

• This position is based in Charlotte, NC

• This is an in-person position with the option to work remotely one day per week

• Occasional travel may be required to support fleet sites, audits, or regulatory meetings
