What you’ll be doing

The Senior Engineer (Development) is responsible for the development and delivery of major construction, reinforcement and customer connection projects across the SPM licence area, leading projects from concept through to completion. Working with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders, you will drive the successful delivery of critical network infrastructure projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, on time and within budget, while supporting the continued growth and performance of the SPM 132kV Networks business.

• Lead the development and delivery of major construction, reinforcement and customer connection projects.
• Manage project activities from concept, route selection and consenting through to construction delivery.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including internal specialists, contractors and consultants.
• Drive safe, compliant and efficient project delivery in line with regulatory and company requirements.
• Evaluate technical, commercial and environmental solutions to achieve the best project outcomes.
• Manage project risks, programmes, budgets and stakeholder relationships.
• Promote innovation, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time and within approved investment allowances.

What You'll Bring

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience developing and delivering major infrastructure, utilities or construction projects.
• Experience in route development, site selection and statutory consenting processes.
• Strong project management and risk management expertise.
• Knowledge of procurement, contract management and construction delivery.
• Understanding of planning, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting and financial control.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience within the electricity transmission or distribution sector.
• Knowledge of electricity network regulatory frameworks.
• Understanding of environmental assessments and biodiversity requirements.
• Experience with NEC, FIDIC, Design & Build or similar contracts.
• Experience using Power BI and asset management principles within regulated utilities.

Minimum Criteria

• Significant experience in project management and project development.
• Significant experience delivering construction or infrastructure projects.
• Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
