Employee Owned Holdings, Inc. · Presencial · Houston, Texas, United States

Hydraquip is looking for a candidate who wants to take the next step in their technical career to join our 100% employee-owned company. Hydraquip has four divisions: electric systems, fluid power, service & repair, and fluid conveyance. With offices in Houston, Dallas, Memphis, Tulsa, Denver, and Lafayette, Hydraquip has a broad footprint with many opportunities for growth within the company.

The Senior Electrical Designer is a highly skilled technical position within the Hydraquip Electric Systems family, responsible for developing electrical design documentation for complex control panels and industrial control systems. This position translates project requirements into schematics, panel layouts, interconnection diagrams, and bills of materials; resolves complex design and integration issues; and supports fabrication, quality verification, and functional testing to help meet project commitments.

The Senior Electrical Designer provides oversight, technical guidance, and mentorship to less experienced members of the design team.  This position collaborates with engineering, quality, and production to standardize electrical design documentation and incorporate shop feedback into design improvements.

Specific responsibilities and authorities may include:

  • Mentor and develop less experienced designers to promote organic internal growth.
  • Develop scalable growth strategy for design team to accommodate expanding business needs.
  • Schedule and allocate design team resources to projects based on requirements and technical capability.
  • Develop complete electrical design packages for complex control panels and industrial electrical systems with minimal supervision, coordinating technical review with engineering before release.
    • Prepare, revise, and check electrical schematics, interconnection diagrams, I/O drawings, network layouts, and panel assembly documentation for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
    • Develop component layouts and wiring documentation for PLC-based control systems, VFDs, motor controls, intrinsically safe systems, communication devices, HMIs, and other advanced components in coordination with engineering.
    • Prepare and maintain electrical bills of materials, component identification, and supporting vendor documentation
  • Incorporate approved design changes and shop redlines into controlled drawing revisions and final as-built documentation.
  • Support point-to-point verification, electrical checkout, and functional testing in accordance with approved procedures by clarifying design intent, investigating drawing discrepancies, and documenting approved corrections.
  • Serve as a technical resource for translating workmanship expectations, wiring practices, and applicable UL 508A requirements into clear electrical drawings and panel documentation, coordinating compliance questions with engineering.
  • Support internal inspections, nonconformance resolution, and corrective-action activities by investigating design-documentation issues and incorporating approved corrections into affected drawings and bills of materials.
  • Develop and maintain standardized design and documentation processes to foster consistent documentation delivery to manufacturing, increasing overall business unit efficiency.
  • Share lessons learned from design reviews, fabrication, and testing, and use them to improve standardized drawing practices, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Support implementation of engineering automation tools such as document management system and upgraded computer aided design (CAD) tools
  • Assist in the management, storage and revision control of all engineering documentation.
  • Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives.  Understand the implications of not conforming with the quality management system requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Training in electrical drafting, computer-aided design, or industrial controls is highly beneficial.

EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant education may be accepted in lieu of a portion of the experience requirement when the candidate demonstrates the electrical design competencies required for the position.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant electrical design or industrial controls experience, or equivalent demonstrated competency, including preparation and revision of electrical schematics, panel layouts, interconnection drawings, and bills of materials for complex control systems.
  • Experience supporting electrical testing and functional verification, including interpreting test findings and incorporating approved corrections into electrical design documentation.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment is considered a plus.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Proficiency with electrical CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and controlled drawing-revision practices, including the ability to maintain consistent component identification and accurate bills of materials.
  • Proficiency in utilization and maintenance of Product Document Management systems.
  • Ability to review electrical testing and functional verification results, trace discrepancies through schematics and interconnection drawings, and document proposed design corrections for review.
  • Proven ability to resolve complex wiring and electrical integration issues by tracing circuits, comparing drawings with system requirements, and coordinating documented solutions with engineering and production.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control components, wiring practices, and applicable UL 508A requirements, with the ability to reflect these requirements accurately in electrical schematics, panel layouts, and supporting documentation
  • Able to communicate clearly with team members verbally as well as with standard MS office tools.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required.
