Senior Robotic Control Software Engineer

Location: Melbourne (or willing to relocate)

Travel: To Caterpillar Proving Grounds as required (up to 20%)

As an Underground Technology Senior Robotic Control Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring delivery of a high-quality product.

The MineStar Underground systems are used in an integrated mine environment, to enable autonomous machine operations, production recording management and monitoring in underground mining applications, using onboard and offboard software and systems.

You will continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

•        Be a part of the Underground Technology Controls Software Team, engaging with stakeholders on schedule, process, and quality goals.

•        Be a role model who follows Scrum and SAFe Agile methodologies for SDLC to deliver all commitments.

•        Research and develop robotic control software for remote-controlled machines to meet required performance.

•        Able to comprehend complex software, troubleshoot problems for root causes and fix software bugs and architecture defects

•        Deliver quality software solutions backed by uncompromised code reviews and validations.

•        Work with architects and cross-disciplinary teams to solve challenging problems and participate in design reviews.

•        Continuation of the robotic automated test environment, progressing it to allow for eventual 100% automation of Area Isolation Management System Testing.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree & PhD in an accredited Engineering field.
• 4+ years of mining controls software development
• Strong analytical skills and competent in robotics and control theories
• New algorithm developments, simulations, modelling and performance analysis experience
• Advanced skills in C++, Python, objected oriented programming
• Developed software for multi-threaded embedded applications with good debugging experience

Desired Qualifications:

• Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Working knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns and test-driven development.
• Work independently and to communicate with others in a variety of work environments.
• Self-motivated to solve problems and guide changes.
• Familiarity with Interfaces, Database, Microservices, Middleware and Linux OS.
