To advance this initiative, GM is actively hiring in Silicon Valley and Austin, seeking mission-driven talent focused on customer-centric technology and sustainability to build next-generation commercial fleet platforms at scale.

In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will lead and develop high performance backend services and systems for GM Commercial Software. This role provides a unique opportunity where you will be working across all of the GM Commercial Software products, and truly steering the future of GM Commercial Software’s system architecture, APIs, products, and customers. What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable and performant services and systems 

• Build and launch new capabilities and products that bring significant value to customers internal and external 

• Uphold our high engineering standards. Elevate quality and engineering efficiency within our codebases.  

• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization including product, design, and other engineering functions. 

• Mentor engineers earlier in their technical career to help them grow. 

• Explore new technologies and enrich our technological stack. 

• Actively participate in technical discussions and deep dives with architectural group.

 

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) 

• 5+ years of hands-on backend software development 

• Experience in building production-quality, highly performant and scalable distributed systems and Service-Oriented architecture 

• Experience in one of the JVM languages Java / Scala / Kotlin + SpringBoot.  

• Experience in writing high quality production code that is tested thoroughly, supported by clear documentation and has appropriate production observability 

• Strong CS fundamentals, including OO concepts, data structures, algorithms, and systems architecture 

• Solid understanding and experience with NoSQL and relational DB 

• Empathy with users internal and external, and a strong customer focus 

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. 

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) 

• Strong product focus and acumen. 

• Experience working independently and drive features or components throughout the development lifecycle 

• Experience with at least one of the public cloud providers Azure, AWS, GCP  

• Experience with IoT stack is a big plus  

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering preferred 

 

 

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The salary range for this role is $153,200 - $269,200. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as the geography of the selected candidate.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
