Senior Back-end Engineer

Location: Makati City, Manila

This position requires 4 days on-site /1-day WFH per week

Job Description

The Senior Back-end Engineer is responsible for guiding the technical direction of core applications, combining hands‑on engineering expertise with leadership responsibilities. This role ensures that architecture, design, and delivery standards drive scalability, performance, and quality. The Lead Software Engineer mentors developers, owns critical technical decisions, and partners with product and delivery leaders to align execution with business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership Provide hands‑on expertise across backend and frontend technologies, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.
• Architecture & Design Define and enforce software architecture principles, ensuring systems are modular, secure, and maintainable.
• Team Mentorship Lead and mentor development teams, fostering growth, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
• Technical Ownership Own key technical decisions, set coding standards, and drive best practices across the engineering organization.
• Quality & Delivery Ensure high‑quality code through reviews, testing practices, and CI/CD pipelines; champion automation and reliability.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration Partner with Delivery Managers, Product Owners, and QA/DevOps teams to align technical execution with roadmap priorities.
• Innovation & Improvement Stay current with emerging technologies, propose improvements, and drive adoption of modern engineering practices.

Qualifications and Experience

• Solid hands‑on experience with:
  • Node.js (modern versions, including v22+ and v24)
  • PostgreSQL (v15 or equivalent)
  • Vue.js (Vue 3)
• Proven experience leading and mentoring software development teams.
• Strong grasp of software architecture principles (modularity, scalability, clean design).
• Ability to own technical decisions and drive quality standards across projects.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and business stakeholders.
• Nice to Have
• Experience with caching technologies (e.g., Redis, Memcached).
• Experience with search and indexing solutions (e.g., Algolia, Elasticsearch, Solr).
• Familiarity with real‑time communication frameworks (e.g., TalkJS, WebSockets).
• Exposure to testing frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Jest).
• Experience with containerization and infrastructure tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Knowledge of cloud ecosystems (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Background in performance optimization and scaling distributed systems.
