International Student Services

International Student Services (ISS) supports the growth, progress, and success of all international students (including visiting and exchange students) at McGill and aims to ease their transition to a new university, a new home and a new country. They provide a range of services and resources for international students including orientation webinars, immigration advising, health insurance guidance, and social and cultural programming and events.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, the MCF Scholarship Selection and Outreach Officer will support the management, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment and yield strategies for selection of the scholars for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University. This role involves providing high-quality advice and service on a wide range of admissions-related matters to prospective applicants, Program Partners, the public, and senior management. The incumbent will represent the program through virtual and in-person outreach, participate in recruitment events, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between recruitment strategies, scholarship selection and admissions operations.

Major Responsibilities:

• Attend outreach events, in person across the African continent organized by the Mastercard Foundation and its partners, and virtually to support recruitment goals and priority group targets for the Program.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all prospective scholars throughout the admissions process.
• Determine admission and Scholarship eligibility of applicants, by considering multiple sources of information, based on predetermined guidelines and procedures.
• Manage the Scholarship Selection Committee and the scholar selection process.
• Act as the main contact for the scholarship applications software and triage inquiries efficiently.
• Ensure alignment with Enrolment Services and Graduate Programs Offices.
• Prepare and deliver engaging information sessions and presentations.
• Maintain and update the program’s application webpage.
• Develop and manage communication tools and promotional materials for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University, namely website and LinkedIn pages)
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to create targeted resources.
• Analize market trends and best practices in recruitment and enrolment, especially amongst Mastercard Foundation partners.
• Participate in working groups, project teams, and committees.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives aligned with university enrolment priorities.
• Track recruitment and selection metrics and provide regular reports.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

• Experience designing and facilitating workshops and information sessions, particularly within multicultural settings.
• Experience working with international students
• Knowledge of African contexts; experience working in Africa considered an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and inter-cultural competences.
• Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
• Proven ability to prioritize and administer multiple projects simultaneously, work under pressure and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal direction.
• Computer literate with all Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience with Banner (SIS) and Minerva is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
• Experience leading discussion groups and classes.
• English and French, spoken and written.
• Third language is an asset.
• Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 4 (Fluent) on a scale of 0-4.
