• The Expert Professional SAP MM / PUR Developer is responsible for the technical design, development, enhancement, extension, and support of SAP MM and procurement-related solutions in SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA.
• The position focuses on purchasing and procurement execution processes, including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, release strategies, purchasing document processing, output management, supplier-related process touchpoints, inventory-related procurement integration, and adjacent SAP MM / PUR functions.
• The role acts as a senior technical counterpart to business stakeholders, key users, global process owners, internal consultants, architects, and external implementation partners. The position is responsible for analyzing incoming business requirements, assessing them against existing end-to-end procurement processes and technical architecture standards, and translating them into robust, scalable and sustainable technical solution concepts.
• A strong focus of the role is the implementation of maintainable, standard-oriented, and upgrade-stable SAP solutions in accordance with Clean Core principles and modern SAP development standards. The position contributes to the continuous improvement of existing SAP MM / PUR solutions, supports technical troubleshooting and incident resolution and ensures high-quality delivery through testing, documentation, deployment support and knowledge transfer.
• The role requires strong hands-on SAP development expertise, a sound understanding of procurement processes, and the ability to work effectively in an international and cross-functional environment.

Accountabilities (% of Time)

Technical Requirement Analysis and Solution Design

• Analyze incoming business requirements and translate them into technically feasible solution concepts.
• Assess requirements against existing SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA processes, global templates, technical architecture standards and relevant integration points.
• Evaluate technical impacts, dependencies, implementation risks and solution alternatives.
• Define efficient, scalable, maintainable and standard-oriented technical approaches.
• Determine, in alignment with relevant stakeholders and architects where required, whether requirements should be addressed through SAP standard functionality, extensibility concepts or custom development.
• Prepare clear technical specifications, effort estimations and implementation concepts for approved developments.
• Ensure that proposed technical solutions support end-to-end procurement processes and business objectives.

SAP MM / PUR Development, Enhancements, and New Developments

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain SAP MM-related technical solutions in SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA.
• Implement custom developments and technical extensions supporting purchasing and procurement processes.
• Develop solutions for purchase requisitions, purchase orders, release procedures, output processing, forms, reports, workflows, interfaces and related procurement functions.
• Use modern SAP development technologies, including ABAP, ABAP Objects, CDS Views, APIs, OData services, RAP-based concepts, Fiori-related concepts and UI5 where applicable.
• Support the technical realization of reports, interfaces, applications, program enhancements, forms, service-based solutions and workflow-related developments.
• Ensure that developments are performant, maintainable, scalable, upgrade-stable and aligned with internal development and architecture principles.
• Contribute to the reusability, standardization, simplification, and continuous improvement of technical solutions across the SAP MM / PUR landscape.

Clean Core, Architecture Compliance, and Technical Quality

• Ensure that developments follow Clean Core principles and modern extensibility concepts, including in-app and side-by-side extensions where appropriate.
• Align technical solutions with enterprise architecture standards, development guidelines, security requirements and long-term supportability expectations.
• Review and challenge technical design options to avoid unnecessary custom complexity.
• Ensure appropriate use of SAP standard functionality before proposing custom development.
• Support the optimization of data models, technical quality, system performance, data consistency, and maintainability.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of technical standards and best practices in the SAP MM / PUR environment.

Collaboration with Business, Consultants, and Management

• Work closely with business stakeholders, key users, global process owners, and procurement teams to clarify technical needs and expected outcomes.
• Collaborate with internal SAP consultants, architects, developers, and external service providers during analysis, design, implementation and support activities.
• Provide transparent technical guidance regarding feasibility, effort, dependencies, implementation risks, and solution alternatives.
• Lead or co-lead technical workstreams in international projects and coordinate the implementation of cross-functional requirements.
• Support management with reliable input on technical complexity, delivery expectations and implementation risks.
• Act as a trusted senior technical counterpart in international projects, rollouts, transformations and support environments.

Integration and Connected System Support

• Support and develop integration scenarios between SAP MM / PUR and connected systems.
• Develop and maintain interfaces, APIs, IDocs, services, forms-related integrations and technical data exchange mechanisms.
• Support procurement-related end-to-end processes across SAP ERP and connected applications.
• Analyze and resolve interface-related issues, data inconsistencies, technical defects, and integration failures.
• Collaborate with integration specialists, master data teams, and external partners to ensure stable and reliable data flows.
• Contribute to technical solutions involving SAP Integration Suite, SAP CPI, APIs, web services or related integration technologies where applicable.

Required experience & qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in SAP development, technical implementation, or enhancement delivery in international environments.
• Strong experience in SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA development contexts.
• Proven hands-on experience in SAP MM / PUR-related developments, particularly in purchasing and procurement process areas.
• Several years of experience implementing custom developments, enhancements, extensions, interfaces, reports, forms, APIs, workflows and service-based solutions.
