Sample Preparation Operator
About the Position
The Sample Preparation Operator will work at the ALS Kombat Site in Namibia.
ALS operates 24/7 and the Employee must be able to work shifts and flexi hours. The responsibility of the Employee is not restricted to the list below and is subject to change depending on business needs.
The position will be responsible for:
Compliance:
- Practice the ALS Health and Safety Foundation Standards
- Practice the ALS company core values
- Abide by the ALS company policies and procedures
- Follow all ALS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at all times
Duties:
- Train new staff on sample preparation tasks
- Monitor Prep QC results and report all deviations to Team Leader / designate
- Capable of basic sample logging functions on GEMS
- Tracking samples to respective laboratory sections on GEMS
- Escalate any tracking issues to team leader
- Prepare sample rejects in polywoven bags to be stored in warehouse
- Make necessary adjustments to sample preparation equipment (Jaw Crushers, boyd crusher and LM2 Pulverisers) settings and/or institute appropriate corrective and preventative measures
- Maintain and update operation logs on sample preparation logs sheets and records
- Maintain and update accurate QC data on GEMS
- In conjunction with the shift team leader, assist with all QC and HSE incident investigations
- Assist with the coordination of sample transportation / movement between different laboratory areas
- Assist with managing NSS (non-sufficient samples) tasks
- Required to drive forklift or company vehicle based on appropriate license
- Fully understand and able to perform sample preparation duties within the department
- Layout samples on drying acks and dry samples in oven
- Crush /split samples and keep rejects for appropriate storage
- Pulverize sample using tow pulverising machines simultaneously
- Screen sieve soil samples
- Record receiving weigh and transfer pulp to laboratory sample envelopes
- Daily housekeeping and the removal of waste to the waste disposal bins
- Perform other duties as line manager sees fit, with training provided

- Familiar with all Sample Preparation tasks
Qualifications
- Grade 12 – Maths and Science (advantageous)
- Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel and GEMS)
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
- Valid vehicle / forklift licence
