Carry out cargo handling duties, general cleaning, maintenance and other manual labor as assigned/directed.

Job Description

REPORTING:

Reports To: Crane Operator

Supervision: None

Pre-Requisite/Qualification:

  • Willingness to work as a team to perform safe and efficient rig operational goals.
  • Basic mechanical skills, safety awareness, and a willingness to work in tough environments.
  • Work under supervision from the Deck Department and must coordinate operational needs with Drillers, and other crew members.
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.

  • Attend and participate in all required Safety and Operational meetings.
  • Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process, competency assessments based on performance against Operational Discipline requirements.
  • Complete company training requirements for the Roustabout job level as per the training matrix, including in local/regulatory requirements.
  • If applicable, the duties and responsibilities in the safety case for this position must be observed.
  • Full participation in emergency drills and respond to emergency situations as per assigned duties on the station bill.
  • Cleans varies rig areas and keeps the decks organized to prevent trip hazards.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure the job is properly discussed and that everyone understands their individual roles.
  • Rustproofing metal surfaces to prevent corrosion.
  • Assist with drill floor operations when required.

Operational Discipline Requirements:

​Disciplined application and participation in the Task Planning & Risk Assessment Process. This means, doing the right thing, the right way, every time following Transocean Expectations of Task Planning and Risk Assessment. This is inclusive of:

  • Understanding and perform the roles and responsibilities as assigned at the pre-job meeting.
  • Understanding the hazards associated with the task.
  • Understanding and effectively implementing the control measures required to mitigate identified hazards.
  • Execute all tasks and task steps in a disciplined manner, following the sequence detailed in the relevant procedures.
  • Recognize at risk behavior or conditions during tasks and call ‘Time out for Safety’ when unsure, or when the job does not go as planned.
  • Participate in After Action Reviews to feedback lessons learned from performing the task.

HSE Requirements:

  • Protect personnel, the environment, and assets by eliminating hazards and reducing health and safety risks.
  • Understand Company OI & HSE requirements applicable to the job position.
  • Execute work in accordance with Company OI & HSE requirements.
  • Call a Time Out when a real or perceived at risk behavior or unsafe condition is observed.
  • Use WorkSight ENGAGE during the execution of planned work.
  • Report all incidents, potential hazards, or abnormal situations to a supervisor.
  • Incorporate the Control of Work process into all work, whether working alone or as part of a team.
  • Understand and implement major accident barriers / controls applicable to the job position.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area throughout and on completion of all work.
  • Understand your role in an emergency, as designated in the Emergency Response Plan and Station Bill.
  • Participate in all emergency drills and exercises, as required.

Duties:

The underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements.

When considering assignment of duties for the Roustabout, the Supervisor and the Roustabout will apply the Control of Work process to determine if the assigned role is appropriate.

This means confirming that the individuals involved have the knowledge, skills, and experience to carry out the task, and the task plan complies with policy before they are authorized to proceed.

General Duties:

A underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements.

During this time, they will be supervised by the appropriate line supervisor for the task and expected to carry out duties in accordance with Company policies.

Duties are varied but may including:

  • Housekeeping, cleaning, tidying and correct disposal of trash.
  • Surface preparation and painting, including the use of air operated and electrical chipping and grinding equipment.
  • Assisting in preventative and corrective maintenance of rig equipment.
  • Manually move equipment, tools and materials around the installation, using manual lifting aids and working ‘Hands Free’ whenever physically possible.

Lifting Operations:

A significant portion of a Roustabouts work involves cargo handling operations. There are significant hazards associated with this work which must be conducted in accordance with Company and Industry Rigging and Slinging Standards including:

  • Inspection of cargo for potential dropped objects.
  • Use and Inspection of lifting slings and shackles.
  • Inspection of cargo containers and contents to verify adequate securing.
  • Storage of lifting and rigging equipment correctly when not in use.
  • Identify, report and dispose of damaged lifting equipment.
  • Using Hands-Free Tools to control the load.
  • Knowledge and awareness of hazards associated with proximity to danger, line of fire and suspended loads.
  • Understanding and complying with the requirements for safe step back areas as part of the Job by Design.
  • When deemed competent, act as banksman for crane operations, utilizing the company approved hand signals or use of radios following correct communication protocol.
  • When deemed competent, operate air hoists, chain hoists and other lifting devices.
