Position Summary

Researcher to conduct complex scientific investigations in the AquOTic research laboratory in the Occupational Therapy division, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, College of Medicine functioning as a clinical expert in aquatic occupational therapy intervention delivery, pediatric clinical assessments, clinical research coordination.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, manage and implement research projects;
• Coordinates participant recruitment, scheduling, and data collection;
• Ensures adherence to study protocols, intervention fidelity, participant safety, and data quality;
• Trains and supports research staff, students, and intervention personnel in clinical and research procedures;
• Assists with IRB submissions, regulatory documentation, and study compliance;
• Analyzes & evaluates experimental data;
• Develops and implements new or revised research methods;
• Assists PI in research & development efforts of new research projects;
• Works closely with PI to determine and develop goals of projects;
• Develops and establishes criteria & research standards to meet goals of research projects;
• Plans and writes manuscripts, articles, abstracts and research reports for publication in scientific journals;
• Attends and presents research results at national and international scientific conferences and workshops;
• Actively contributes to developing, writing, editing and critiquing research grant proposals;
• Investigates potential sources of funding and makes recommendations to principal investigators;
• Participates in developing and establishing working relationships with current & potential sponsors of research;
• Oversees appropriate maintenance of all laboratory equipment;
• Negotiates and oversees pool and community service contracts;
• Participates in developing and implementing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safety Manual;
• Monitors, oversees & ensures compliance to local, state and federal laboratory health and safety rules, regulations and guidelines;
• Provides training of research staff in executing new research methods;
• Serves as a clinical research consultant in pediatric occupational therapy, aquatic intervention, water competency, and rehabilitation research.

Job Requirements

Master's Degree or equivalent experience required; 5 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree, or 3 years of relevant experience required with Master's Degree.

Preferred

Doctoral Degree with research coordination experience; comfort in water activities; Extensive experience in health science research capacity; experience in a progressively responsible administrative capacity; extensive experience planning & developing projects; extensive knowledge and expertise in aquatic occupational therapy.
