Join the Heat and Health Research Centre at the University of Sydney and contribute to world-leading research addressing the growing health challenges associated with a warming world.

As a Research Fellow, you will apply and further develop your expertise across research methodology, experimental design and delivery, contributing to innovative research that strengthens the University’s standing as a national leader in the field. Working under broad direction, you will have the opportunity to exercise your subject matter expertise, provide research advice and recommendations, and independently resolve complex issues across your research projects

You will work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced multidisciplinary research environment, building partnerships and translating research into real-world outcomes that can inform policy, practice and community health. This role offers an opportunity to develop your research profile while contributing to a collaborative culture committed to research excellence and meaningful impact.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead and contribute to high-quality original research in climate and environmental physiology, including experimental research, physiological assessment, data analysis and statistical modelling.

  • Build and maintain a strong research profile through high-quality publications, conference presentations and other scholarly outputs, independently and collaboratively.

  • Develop research collaborations and partnerships with academic, government, industry and community stakeholders to translate research findings into improved policy, practice and community outcomes.

  • Contribute to competitive research funding applications and support the delivery of research projects that generate meaningful research impact.

  • Apply expertise in experimental and physiological research methods, including venipuncture and blood analysis, to support rigorous, high-quality and innovative research.

  • Contribute to the research culture and strategic priorities of the Heat and Health Research Centre through mentoring, postgraduate supervision, knowledge exchange and active participation in University and centre activities and initiatives.

About you

  • A PhD in Environmental physiology, physiology, sports and exercise science, with demonstrated experience conducting original research and contributing to high-quality scholarly outputs.

  • Demonstrated expertise in climate and environmental physiology, experimental and physiological assessment, data analysis and statistical modelling, with experience in venipuncture and blood analysis highly regarded.

  • An emerging research profile, including evidence of publications, presentations, research collaborations and a developing network of academic, industry and professional stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to communicate research effectively to academic, industry and broader audiences, together with experience contributing to presentations, forums, seminars or conferences.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver research activities effectively, while providing supervision, mentoring and guidance to students or less experienced researchers.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers, while upholding high professional standards and contributing positively to a collegial and supportive team culture.

Pre-employment checks and declarations 

Your employment is conditional upon the successful completion of all pre-employment or background checks required for the role in terms satisfactory to the University.  Also, to meet the University’s obligations under the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Eliminate Gender-Based Violence you will be asked to declare if you have been investigated for, or found to engaged in, sexual harm or gender-based violence in the course of previous employment or in a legal process. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
