What You Will Do

The Aerodynamics & Acoustics Discipline at RTX Technology Research Center is seeking candidates with expertise in computational and/or experimental aeroacoustics or hydroacoustics. We invite applications for a Research Engineer to join our integrated team of engineers and technicians dedicated to advancing innovative technologies for aerospace and defense applications. In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to perform technology, product, and program research using state‑of‑the‑art R&D principles, methods, and tools. They will develop pioneering solutions to both fundamental and applied research challenges, demonstrate creativity in delivering advanced technologies, and communicate results effectively through written reports and presentations. The position also includes contributing to research proposal development for RTX business units and government agencies.

A successful candidate will have technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• High‑fidelity modeling and simulation of aeroacoustic mechanisms, including sound generation and propagation in aerospace and naval systems.
• Experimental methods for noise measurement and characterization of unsteady flow and acoustic phenomena.
• Analysis of sound generation and transmission in air or water vehicles, propulsion systems, air‑management systems, and related components.
• Development and evaluation of noise‑reduction concepts, including acoustic liners.
• Wave phenomena in fluids and solids, including acoustic metamaterials.
• Application of ultrasound‑based measurement and inspection techniques.
• Use of advanced sensing concepts and signal‑processing techniques.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• An advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent military education and experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in fundamental principles of fluid dynamics and acoustics, including acoustic analogies and unsteady fluid flow phenomena.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in the application of computational and/or experimental skills towards the development of new technologies.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• A PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field and 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent military education and experience.
• Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent communication skills, informal and formal presentation skills, and ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external partners.
• Ability to manage uncertain requirements, develop approaches to solve problems, and recognize when additional subject matter expertise is needed.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
