This internship is specifically designed for individuals working towards a PhD who are developing proficiency in their field. The Opportunity:

P&G has an opportunity for a PhD intern to join our Grooming R&D Process Development organization and support the development of advanced surface-engineering solutions for consumer products.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong eagerness to learn and grow professionally and possess excellent communication skills—both written and verbal. Key Responsibilities:

• Support the development, operation, and troubleshooting of advanced coating processes and related equipment.
• Operate and maintain laboratory-scale vacuum-processing equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
• Plan and execute experiments to improve process quality, consistency, and product performance.
• Evaluate process conditions and equipment data to understand relationships between operating parameters, material properties, and product performance.
• Use appropriate analytical and testing methods to assess material characteristics, integrity, durability, and overall performance.
• Analyze results, document key learnings, and communicate findings and recommendations to cross-functional partners.
  
  

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Working toward a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Technical Skills: Proven hands-on experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting laboratory-scale vacuum-processing or materials-processing equipment.
• Experience analyzing data from relevant material characterization and performance-testing methods.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to systematically evaluate process variables.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills, with a track record of presenting complex scientific data clearly and concisely.
• Available to work a 12-week internship from May or early June through August 2027, five days per week onsite at the Boston location.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with advanced vacuum-based coating or surface-engineering processes.
• Understanding of material integrity, durability, and process–property relationships in engineered coatings or related materials.
• Familiarity with diagnostic methods used to evaluate and improve vacuum or plasma-based processes.
