Job Description

Position Summary

The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of injection-molded toy elements through visual, functional, dimensional, color, and product-safety inspections. This role supports production by using approved reference standards, controlled lighting, Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), CT scanners, and other precision inspection tools to verify that molded elements meet established specifications and tolerances.

Quality Technicians are expected to perform the full range of assigned inspections, which may include visual, dimensional, functional, color, surface-finish, and product-safety evaluations, based on operational requirements. This hands-on, detail-critical role contributes directly to product quality, customer satisfaction, and manufacturing excellence.

Compensation and Schedule:

Starting Pay: Compensation: $29.70 hr.

Schedule: 2-2-3 Day or Night

Permanent Schedule: 7AM - 7PM or 7pm - 7AM (10% shift differential)
Temporary Schedule: 8am - 5pm until end of year

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform visual, functional, dimensional, color, surface-finish, and product-safety inspections of injection-molded toy elements against approved specifications and reference standards.
  • Identify and evaluate color, appearance, and surface-finish characteristics against approved standards and specifications using designated inspection methods, controlled lighting, and approved inspection equipment, including the identification of shade variation, discoloration, contamination, streaking, burn marks, black specks, surface-finish variation, and other molding defects.
  • Compare molded elements with approved color standards and master samples under controlled lighting conditions using designated inspection methods and equipment.
  • Operate precision inspection equipment, including CMMs, CT scanners, height gauges, calipers, color-measurement equipment, and other approved measurement tools.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, tolerances, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to determine product conformance.
  • Make accurate accept/reject determinations and escalate suspected non-conforming products according to established quality procedures.
  • Document and report non-conformances involving raw materials, in-process components, and finished products.
  • Record inspection results and quality data in SAP, spreadsheets, inspection logs, or other designated quality systems.
  • Stop or contain production when critical quality or product-safety concerns are identified and immediately notify the appropriate teams.
  • Support product containment, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions to resolve quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and other cross-functional partners during issue investigation and resolution.
  • Track non-conformance trends and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Follow all safety requirements, including applicable PPE and OSHA standards.
  • Support Integrated Management System requirements and comply with applicable quality, safety, environmental, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency when completing inspection activities.
  • Ability to accurately perform required visual, color, surface-finish, and appearance inspections using approved standards, controlled lighting, methods, and inspection equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to reliably identify and differentiate product conditions necessary to determine conformance with established quality specifications.
  • Basic mathematical skills and the ability to learn and use measurement and inspection tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry, documentation, and reporting.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts and meet the physical and operational requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in a manufacturing or quality role, preferably in plastics or injection molding.
  • Experience inspecting injection-molded components or toy elements.
  • Hands-on experience with CMMs, CT scanners, color-measurement equipment, or other precision inspection tools.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Excel, or other quality documentation systems.
  • Understanding of GD&T, product specifications, tolerances, non-conformance processes, and quality documentation.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Technical certification or associate degree in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience performing color, surface-finish, visual, dimensional, or functional inspections.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

  • Basic math skills, including the ability to perform measurements and calculations using metric and imperial units.

  • Ability to follow work instructions, inspection procedures, and quality standards.

  • Basic computer skills for data entry, reporting, and quality documentation.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to distinguish colors accurately for visual and color inspections.

  • Ability to work a fixed 12-hour day or night shift on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to stand, walk, perform repetitive tasks for extended periods, and lift materials as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, Metrology, or a related technical field.

  • One or more years of experience in a manufacturing, quality inspection, laboratory, or metrology environment, preferably within plastics or injection molding manufacturing.

  • Experience operating precision measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), Industrial CT scanners, or other metrology equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection instructions.

  • Experience using SAP, Microsoft Excel, or other electronic quality management systems.

  • Familiarity with non-conformance reporting, root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement methodologies.

Compensation

The salary for this position has a range of $29.70 - $29.70 based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalisation of the employment offer.
