Sobre este puesto de Product SME – Property Claims en Assured
Assured is on a mission to modernize insurance. Claims processing (i.e. should we pay this claim?), while often overlooked, is the foundation of the entire industry. It’s currently highly manual, involving phone calls, faxes, and gut instinct, costing tens of billions of dollars a year. We can do better.
At Assured, we provide large insurers with the software solutions they need to win in a modern, technology-driven world. From self-service claim-filing software to backend fraud detection, we’re the engine that powers claims processing for some of the largest insurers in the world.
The challenges we face are deep and diverse, from creating digital experiences that provide comfort and clarity to claimants at their most stressed and vulnerable to orchestrating large-scale ML-driven decision-making on billions of dollars of claims payments, life at Assured is dynamic, collaborative, and rewarding.
Assured Insurance Technologies modernizes insurance claims processing through software solutions for major insurers, addressing a sector that remains "highly manual, involving phone calls, faxes, and gut instinct."
We're looking for a hands-on property claims practitioner to own the property-claims perspective inside Product — turning your adjusting judgment and real operational data into defensible workflows, quality standards, and measurable product improvements. This is an individual-contributor role: you won't manage a team, but you'll teach and advise Product and Engineering, find the right work in an ambiguous environment, and help us modernize claims without losing the human and regulatory controls that have to stay in place.
What you'll do
🔍 Conduct an end-to-end review of the property claims lifecycle — Examine the full claim journey (FNOL intake, inspection, coverage evaluation, cause-of-loss determination, scope and estimate development, reserving, vendor coordination, settlement, and closure), identifying friction points and automation opportunities, and explaining how the decisions and data at each stage depend on one another.
🧠 Develop deep expertise in how property claims decisions are made and supported by data — Understand what adjusters rely on (inspection reports, photos/videos, contractor estimates, policy data, weather data, third-party reports), how it's structured in the system, and where gaps exist.
🧩 Identify breakdowns in claim workflow and documentation — Surface inconsistencies in data capture, estimate accuracy, reserve alignment, vendor handoffs, task routing, approvals, or reporting, diagnosing root causes rather than symptoms.
✅ Own the integrity of core claims data across systems — Ensure key indicators (coverage determination, cause of loss, damage scope, reserve position, estimate accuracy, settlement status) are accurately captured and consistently reflected across product, operational, and financial views.
📐 Define and defend standards for claims quality and defensibility — Set and hold the line on expectations for inspection quality, documentation rigor, estimate accuracy, decision rationale, reserve adequacy, and claims-data integrity, including relevant compliance and audit needs.
🤝 Partner cross-functionally to resolve systemic issues — Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Claims Operations, and Leadership on root causes impacting claim efficiency, estimate accuracy, vendor performance, and customer experience.
🛠️ Improve both inputs and outputs across the claims process — Enhance how property damage data is collected and structured (inspections, imagery, estimates), and how insights are delivered through dashboards, reporting, automation, and AI models — with sound judgment about where automation helps and where human review has to stay.
📊 Translate insights into measurable product improvements — Prioritize enhancements that reduce cycle time, improve loss ratio performance, minimize leakage, strengthen reserving accuracy, improve customer satisfaction, and increase operational efficiency.
🧭 Influence roadmap decisions with financial and operational context — Articulate business impact across indemnity spend, expense management, vendor costs, subrogation recovery, litigation exposure, adjuster productivity, and customer retention — through evidence and credibility, not formal authority.
🎓 Teach and advise Product and Engineering as the internal SME on property claims — Translate complex claims concepts into concise, usable frameworks for non-experts; guide best practices for inspections, scoping and estimating, vendor coordination, documentation, and automation.
🤜🤛 Align teams around consistent process standards — Partner across Claims, Product, Engineering, Finance, and Customer Success to build shared understanding and disciplined execution.
🗣️ Communicate clearly across audiences — Present findings and recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You have (Must-Haves)
5+ years of hands-on P&C property claims experience, including field or desk adjusting at a major carrier, with credible responsibility for real adjudication decisions — not just adjacent exposure to claims.
Deep end-to-end command of property claims: FNOL, inspection, coverage and cause-of-loss analysis, scoping and estimating, reserving, vendor coordination, settlement, and closure. You can explain how these decisions and data dependencies interact, not just recite the terminology.
A track record of assessing complex claims workflows and raw operational data, diagnosing root causes, and turning that into prioritized improvements with measurable effects on accuracy, cycle time, leakage, reserves, customer outcomes, or productivity.
Experience defining and defending practical standards for claim completeness, documentation quality, inspection/estimate accuracy, decision rationale, and core claims-data integrity, including relevant compliance or audit needs.
A demonstrated ability to find and structure high-value work on your own — when the role, inputs, or path aren't predefined, and without waiting for detailed direction.
Clear written and verbal communication: you can translate complex claims concepts into concise, usable frameworks for non-experts, and teach and advise Product and Engineering by earning credibility through evidence rather than formal authority.
Experience partnering with product, engineering, analytics/data, and claims or operational teams to turn domain expertise into workflows, requirements, reporting, automation, or product decisions.
Real curiosity about modern technology in claims, with sound judgment about where automation or AI adds value — and where human review, compliance, or quality controls have to stay.
Nice-to-Haves
Both field and desk adjusting experience, followed by claims supervision or another role that gave you a broader view across adjusters, processes, and outcomes.
Depth in complex, high-severity, large-loss, or commercial property claims, including making defensible decisions under incomplete information and exposure to varied policy types.
Experience improving inspection imagery, estimates, dashboards, claims-data structures, AI models, or other technology-enabled claims workflows.
Experience contributing domain expertise to carrier meetings, client discovery, product marketing, or product-roadmap decisions.
