The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for managing and supporting process safety activities across BWE assets, ensuring effective risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity. The role oversees risk assessments, technical studies, process safety programs, and Safety and Environment Critical Elements (SECEs), ensuring that risks are managed in accordance with company requirements and industry best practices. The position also supports process safety governance, continuous improvement initiatives, and the implementation of effective operational risk controls throughout the asset lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and guide the process safety process on the assets under the scope assigned.
- Manage and optimize risk evaluation, risk assessment, and technical studies to support proper risk management on BWE assets.
- Clearly define the process safety programs and plans, assigning roles and responsibilities to ensure proper risk management.
- Ensure that process safety processes, procedures, and information are clear, available, and communicated to the stakeholders, ensuring proper risk-based decision-making, safety culture, and an open and safe work environment.
- Define and follow up KPIs to sustain process safety control and continuous improvement.
- Define and deliver proper training on Process Safety and Risk management
- Be responsible for identifying and sustaining proper register, documentation and procedures regarding Safety and Environment Critical Elements (SECEs), Performance Standards, Assurance Tasks, and SECEs’ Degradation
- Establish and monitor SECEs status and act diligently to sustain real risk management in place.
- Provide leadership in Process Safety policy, legislative developments and emerging best practice, ensuring update of BWE related processes.
- Deliver process safety governance and assurance systems and processes
- Develop effective standards and procedures in Process Safety and oversee their implementation to assure that Personal and Environmental safety risks are mitigated to a level that is As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), are in compliance with all statutory and corporate requirements and aligned with the industry best practices.
- Manage process safety guidance on all phases of the project life cycle.
- Guide process safety-related documentation to fulfill Brazilian regulatory requirements for operating assets, as well as platforms and assets/projects in project, construction or commissioning phases
- Drive workforce process safety communications, including incident trends, investigation findings, process safety bulletins, lessons learned, etc.
- Represent BWE at relevant industry forums and networking activities and disseminate learnings to workforce.
- Participate in incident investigations when required.
- Be a lider on Process Safety and not only a consultant. Proper understand of Process Safety is a must, as deliver the implementation of operational effective risk controls.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or corelated areas
- Post Graduation on Process Safety
Experience
- Solid experience with Process Safety Management within Oil & Gas or Petrochemical related industries with extensive experience in operation, maintenance and inspection of Upstream or Downstream oil and gas processing facilities.
- High-level technical knowledge in all aspects of Process Safety
- Expert knowledge of Hazard and Risk Analysis (e.g. HAZOP, HAZID, QRA, SIL assessments, LOPA, area classification, dispersion analyses etc).
- Expert knowledge of CCPS/IOSH Process Safety standards, applicable industry codes, regulations and best practices is required.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to recognize trends, assess risks and identify root causes.
- Ability to apply sound judgment in problem solving, evaluating courses of action, and making decisions on complex health and safety matters.
Knowledge
- Fluency in English and Portuguese
- Excellent report writing skills.
