Principal Civil Engineer
We’re looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our Civil & Structural team.
You’ll take a leading role in the delivery of civil engineering projects, providing technical direction and overseeing project teams across a range of work. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, you’ll either lead a larger civil team or provide technical and delivery oversight across several smaller teams.
This is a role for an experienced civil engineer who can combine strong technical knowledge with the ability to lead people, manage delivery and build effective relationships with clients and other disciplines.
What you’ll be doing

Lead civil engineering teams delivering projects to agreed scope, programme, cost and quality requirements.

Provide technical direction and review to ensure designs are robust, coordinated and compliant with relevant standards.

Take responsibility for the delivery of civil design packages across areas such as earthworks, drainage, highways and external works.

Plan and coordinate resources across projects, ensuring teams have the right skills and capacity to deliver effectively.

Work closely with project managers, other engineering disciplines and clients to resolve technical and delivery challenges.

Support the development of engineers within the team through technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Contribute to project planning, fee proposals, tenders and changes to scope.

Ensure projects are delivered in line with business quality systems, assurance processes, CDM and relevant health and safety requirements.

Support continuous improvement and contribute to the development of engineering standards, processes and ways of working.

Build and maintain strong client relationships, contributing to repeat business and positive project outcomes.
What you’ll bring
-
Degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
-
Chartered Engineer status with ICE or an equivalent professional institution.
-
Significant experience delivering civil engineering projects within a consultancy or similar environment.

Broad technical experience across areas such as drainage, earthworks, highways, external works, foundations and substructures.

Strong knowledge of current civil engineering design codes, standards and assurance processes.

Experience working within CDM and health and safety requirements.

Experience leading and developing engineering teams.

A proven track record of delivering projects successfully, including managing scope, programme, quality and resources.

Experience working directly with clients and other project stakeholders.

Experience delivering projects within one or more relevant sectors, with specialist sector knowledge an advantage.

The ability to work effectively within fully integrated, multidisciplinary design teams.
