Shape and improve the dashboards that support decisions across New Zealand’s state highway infrastructure portfolio.

Do you understand how leaders use performance information, and can you turn their needs into clear, trusted and practical reporting products?

We are looking for a Principal Analyst - Performance Reporting Products to lead the business ownership, development, continuous improvement and adoption of Infrastructure Development & Delivery’s (IDD’s) performance reporting dashboards. You will work across business and technical teams to ensure dashboards remain trusted, intuitive and aligned with the information leaders need to support governance and executive decision-making.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

This senior role sits at the intersection of performance reporting, customer needs and digital product development. You will provide leadership across IDD’s reporting products, setting priorities, influencing stakeholders and shaping how performance information is used to support governance, investment and delivery decision-making.

You will lead the ongoing evolution of IDD’s reporting products, balancing competing customer, organisational and delivery priorities to make informed trade-offs about where investment and effort are directed. Working with stakeholders across the business, you will help IDD strengthen the use of trusted performance information and support the shift towards digitally enabled performance management.

This includes:

• Leading the business ownership and continuous improvement of IDD’s performance reporting dashboards.
• Gathering customer needs and translating business requirements into clear, practical dashboard solutions.
• Owning and managing the dashboard backlog, including prioritisation, enhancement planning and transparent communication of delivery priorities.
• Leading improvement initiatives through planning, delivery and adoption, using structured and agile approaches.
• Setting and maintaining fit-for-purpose reporting standards, business rules and processes.
• Working across business and technical teams to ensure dashboard solutions are useful, sustainable and aligned with customer needs.
• Coaching and mentoring analysts and senior analysts to lift capability, quality and consistency.

You will be a curious, customer-focused analytical leader who can work confidently across business and technical teams. You will understand how portfolio, programme and project performance information is used, while bringing a strong working knowledge of Power BI, dashboards, data and product management to shape clear requirements and lead practical improvements.

You’ll bring:

• Demonstrated curiosity and critical thinking, with the ability to challenge assumptions and identify practical improvements.
• Proven experience gathering customer needs, defining requirements and translating them into clear reporting and dashboard solutions.
• Experience leading the continuous improvement of reporting products, using structured and agile approaches to planning, prioritisation and delivery.
• Experience working with portfolio, programme and project performance data in a large or complex organisation.
• Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.
• Strong ability to communicate and present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Understanding of product management principles, including prioritisation, continuous improvement and user adoption.
• Strong working knowledge of Power BI, reporting systems and user-centered dashboard design principles, including how visual presentation, consistency and usability support effective decision-making.
• Strong analytical capability and experience coaching and mentoring others.

The Portfolio Performance & Insights team provides trusted, integrated and decision-ready performance reporting and insights for the state highway infrastructure portfolio, supporting effective governance, accountability and confident decision-making.
