The Role

M&G’s Real Estate Finance team (“REF”) was established in 2009 and is part of M&G’s global Real Estate business. REF is one of Europe’s largest and most established non-bank commercial real estate debt providers, with on-the-ground expertise in both the UK and Europe, and has invested more than £14 billion of capital since inception.

REF has personnel dedicated to the origination and execution of investments (“Investment team”), with others focused on loan servicing, asset management, investment support and internal and client reporting (“Portfolio Management team”).

The successful candidate will report to, and work closely with, the team’s Portfolio Management & Investment Support Director, and will gain exposure to all aspects of portfolio management, with responsibility for fund administration and reporting deliverables for key client accounts, as well as loan servicing and asset management matters in relation to investments within their allocation.

Key Responsibilities

Key Client Account Financial Oversight, Reporting and Servicing

• Ensuring timely and accurate reporting in respect of key client accounts, including preparation and oversight (as applicable) of monthly and quarterly fund reporting packages involving review of NAVs, capital statements, quarterly and ad hoc distribution calculations and management fee calculations.
• Responsible for preparing and actioning ad hoc reporting requests received in respect of key client accounts.  
• Supporting with the implementation of the hedging strategy in relation to key client accounts and associated monitoring activities.   
• Overseeing loan fundings, loan repayments, drawdowns and distributions in respect of key client accounts.
• Providing support on annual audits and investor due diligence exercises undertaken in relation to key client account vehicles.
• Attending and presenting at client meetings and board meetings in relation to key client accounts.   

Asset Management Matters

• Working across all aspects of loan servicing and the ongoing monitoring and portfolio management of existing investments, involving day-to-day oversight of facility agents, credit rating monitoring, reviewing covenant and borrower reporting, assessing and responding to borrower and tenant requests received during the life of the loan, and tracking investment performance against objectives, working closely with the team’s Director and relevant Investment team lead where applicable.
• Preparing loan and investment-level reporting data and materials needed for investor reporting packages or to fulfill internal reporting or committee requirements.
• Overseeing and coordinating the prompt termination and liquidation of enforcement structures.
• Supporting with the work-out of impaired loans, working closely with the Asset Management team, the Investment team lead, M&G’s dedicated Restructuring function, and internal committees as needed.  
• Working alongside the Asset Management team on investment data management.

Investment and Product Support Matters

• Acting as a key REF team contact for central finance and operational functions as needed, including working collaboratively with Real Estate Operations, Finance, and Audit, in relation to the maintenance, oversight and operation of REF’s funds and SMAs.
• Leading on the termination and liquidation of fund/SMA vehicles managed by REF, working alongside central functions at M&G and third parties.
• Maintaining REF’s available capital tracker for use by the Investment team.
• Preparing or supporting with monthly and ad hoc internal finance and management reporting.
• Maintaining track record for loan investments.
• Supporting with managing currency risks in relation to REF’s portfolios, including implementing FX hedging strategies.   
• Ensuring REF’s fund/SMAs remain compliant with controls and on-desk processes are adhered to.
• Supporting with the team’s Director with the on-desk operational aspects of setting up new funds and SMAs, including putting in place processes and procedures for new products.
• Supporting the team’s Director with the on-desk aspects of sourcing and on-going utilisation and monitoring of back leverage and subscription facilities.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

•  Qualified accountant with extensive prior experience in fund accountancy, administration, institutional investor reporting and operations for real estate debt structures.
• Demonstrable experience in the real estate credit sector involving the operation and maintenance of complex, multi-layered products, their loan investments, and bespoke institutional investor reporting requirements.
• Prior experience of the set-up, maintenance and monitoring of fund financing facilities required.
• Client focused, with a high level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Self-motivating and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent and competing priorities whilst ensuring deadlines are met. 
• Able to operate, and maintain, a positive attitude within a fast paced environment under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective at communicating and collaborating both internally and externally.
