Compensation Range
The base pay scale for this position is $144,533.48 - $187,893.52. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.What you will be doing
Hospital for Special Surgery, #1 in Orthopedics for the last 16 years, is currently looking for an experienced and energetic Full Time Physician Assistant to join Dr. Gbolabo Sokunbi’s practice.
The MD Office Physician Assistant is a licensed physician assistant who is responsible for assessment and management of patients in the physician office setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to physician specific out-patient management (responsibilities extending beyond the office setting, inclusive of hospital rounding/perioperative and postop patient management will require Hospital credentialing by the medical board).
Your role is essential to promoting a professional atmosphere through courteous communication, cooperation and respect for patients, visitors and members of the healthcare team. In addition, you will be responsible for upholding stellar customer service practices for patients and families, as well as acting as a liaison to the physician and hospital departments.
Competencies/Duties:
- Provide clinical consultation, assessment, and management to patients.
- Conduct outpatient evaluation, treatment and follow-up of surgical patients as directed by the supervising physician.
- Provide pre and post-operative and discharge education to patients and family members with regards to safety issues when applicable (e.g., medication, post-operative precautions, use of equipment, etc.).
- Review/interpret patient imaging and lab results; communicate results to patients and provide follow-up treatment and education.
- Communicate effectively and appropriately when educating patient/family in regard to their medical condition and/or hospital course.
- Document progress patient has made toward desired outcomes.
- Utilize the computerized order communication system, including transcription of medical orders, retrieval of test results and documentation of results.
- Maintain clear and legible history and physical documentation and all other written reports.
- Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Complete any relevant patient paperwork such as medication prior authorizations, plan of care, etc.
- Assist surgeon in operating room by serving as first assist
- Promote cooperation through teamwork.
- Other duties as needed for effective and safe patient care.
Qualifications:
Physician Assistant candidate must have graduated from an accredited PA program, current NYS PA License, BLS/ACLS certification and NCCPA board certification are required.
Must hold current NJ and CT licenses or be actively pursuing licensure in both states.
Previous experience in orthopedics is highly desired but not required.
Candidate must have current Infection Control Certification and have completed a child abuse recognition course.
The PA must have excellent communication skills and be a team player. It is essential that the candidate possesses strong clinical skills.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs). Examples: Nurses, LPNs, and Physical Therapists.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor area with frequent exposure Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians.
HAZARDS OSHA
Category 1 Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Physician Assistant Training Program. Bachelors Physician Assistant EDUCATION PREFERRED
Masters Physician Assistant CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIRED
Current New York State registration. Infection Control Certificate must be current. Must have taken child abuse recognition course. Physician Assistant New York ACLS CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE PREFERRED
Current NCCPA Certificate - 100 hours of continuing medical education must be logged every 2 years. Recertification Examination must be taken every 6-10 years and passed successfully. SKILLS PREFERRED
