Job Description

Responsible for strategically building, cultivating, stewarding, soliciting, and managing a portfolio of planned giving for current donors and prospects (Digital role includes donors across digital platforms). Responsible for qualifying new donors to ensure pipeline and revenue growth from planned giving and outright gifts. Develops long-term relationships with high value donors, high wealth prospects and high value volunteers. Develops individualized engagement and fundraising strategies for donors, including solicitation opportunities where it helps donors achieve their philanthropic goals.

Manages a portfolio of assigned legacy donors and prospects (Digital roles includes a portfolio of 500 -1000 donor prospects.  Collaborates across the organization to facilitate outright and planned gifts, serve as a bequest and planned giving lead within assigned Area (for Digital includes national coverage across digital platforms), and enhances high-value volunteer opportunities to support the St. Jude mission. Identifies key initiatives to advance area goals, while communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for planning and implementation of all activities within assigned area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Strategically uses fund-raising experience and relationship building skills to cultivate and steward portfolio of donors through personal and event visits, written correspondence, telephone calls and other forms of communication. Creates and execute donor cultivation strategy for entire portfolio, which includes reaching a minimum requirement of personal touchpoints and significant contact interactions to the donor portfolio annually. 

2. Utilizes donor-centric approach to identify giving and relationship development opportunities. Proactively interacts with donors and prospects to ensure long-term commitment to the mission and funding of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through planned giving vehicles, including bequests, charitable gift annuities and charitable trusts. Maintains a working knowledge of culturally relevant funding and engagement opportunities to work with donors of all races, cultures, and backgrounds. When appropriate, works with professional advisors and estate attorneys to realize the philanthropic goals of the donor.

3. Using extensive working knowledge of development practices, principles, fundraising and relational knowledge to create and implement innovative and strategic donor cultivation and solicitation plans for appropriate donors. Understands and implements moves management best practices to solicit planned and outright gifts; works independently and in collaboration with major gifts and other internal partners.

4. Builds and maintains expertise in general planned giving, tax considerations and general fundraising knowledge to present to donors.

5. Confirms new members to the Danny Thomas St. Jude Society through timely and strategic follow up on leads to grow the bequest program pipeline.

6. Utilizes technological tools to capture data and information to guide donor strategies, documenting donor interaction and communication; utilizes specialized software (PG Calc, Crescendo) for variety of giving vehicles.

7. Plans and executes a minimum of 2 local in-person Donor Appreciation Luncheons (DAL) and/or Donor Virtual Gatherings, to thank existing donors and expose prospects to the mission of St. Jude. Acts as event host, orchestrates event logistics and follow-up with internal and external partners and vendors.

8. Responsible for staying current with internal and external industry related trends, processes, and policies. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of facts relating to the mission, research, and patient care of St. Jude. Requires ability to articulate current initiatives and programs of St. Jude and connect them appropriately to supporters of St. Jude. Represents ALSAC-St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in all areas in such a manner as to reflect positively on the hospital and our fund-raising organization.

9. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities. Communicate insights to the appropriate teams or individuals. Maintains effective communication with leadership and colleagues. Collaborates with all ALSAC divisions and individuals to share donor and event information for the purpose of enhancing enterprise-wide donor experiences. Collaboration may include, but is not limited to, making presentations to community groups, businesses, and other organizations; attendance at and/or staffing other regional/national events such as colleagues Donor Appreciation Luncheons, galas, golf tournaments, walks and corporate partner events as requested.

10. Identifies key initiatives in support of ALSAC’s strategic plan. Oversees the execution of assigned area plans to ensure plans support the achievement of business objectives and strengthen the fundraising efforts of St. Jude in an impactful way.

Job Requirements:

• 5+ years in fundraising, planned giving, or major gifts. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Assigned donor portfolio work requires both in-person donor cultivation efforts, such as visits and hosting donors at events, in addition to strategic stewardship and personalized outreach. (For Digital role also includes virtual cultivation efforts).
• Demonstrated success in donor cultivation and relationship management.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel 50–70% of the time, including evenings and weekends; additional travel for conferences (10–25%).
• Experience with bequest and major gift fundraising.
• Strategic thinker and collaborative team player.
• Familiarity with planned giving tools and CRM systems.
• Drivers License is required
