General Purpose

The Permit Specialist I supports sales and project management teams by researching sign codes, preparing permit applications, and communicating with local government entities. This role helps ensure compliance with municipal codes and supports successful sign installations by facilitating the permitting process from start to finish.

A Day in the Life

As a Permit Specialist I, your day includes reviewing local sign ordinances, preparing basic permit applications, and submitting them to city or county offices. You’ll support account executives with code guidance and attend public meetings when necessary. You’ll also track permit statuses and update internal teams as jobs progress, helping to keep projects on schedule and within code requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Research municipal sign ordinances to determine signage allowances by location
• Prepare, submit, and track standard sign permit applications
• Communicate with municipal planners and permitting staff to resolve basic code-related questions
• Assist in preparing conditional use, variance, or zoning applications when required
• Post approved permits and permit fees to internal job records
• Attend planning or zoning hearings as necessary for simple permits
• Provide general permitting support to sales and design teams
• Maintain digital and physical records of permit documents
• Participate in training and development on code interpretation and permitting processes

Requirements and Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• At least 6 months of relevant permitting, clerical, or municipal experience preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with local government processes is a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Office systems
• Ability to interpret basic municipal codes and write concise application materials
• Strong organizational and time management skills
