This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys partnering with HR, Finance, IT, and operational leaders to deliver exceptional payroll services across Canada and the United States.
This role is hybrid with 3 days/week on-site at the Ipex Markham, ON location.
The compensation for this position is between $64,800 and $81,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for participation in the annual short-term incentive bonus program, company-matched RRSP, and an extensive health and wellness medical benefits program.
Key Responsibilities
Manage full-cycle biweekly payroll processing for salaried and hourly employees across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with legislative requirements.
Collect, audit, and validate time and attendance data from unionized and non-unionized locations, resolving discrepancies prior to payroll processing.
Administer employee lifecycle transactions including new hires, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, terminations, and compensation changes.
Review payroll calculations, earnings, deductions, taxes, benefit contributions, and accruals to ensure payroll outputs are accurate and complete.
Support collective bargaining agreement compliance by applying contractual pay rules, premiums, overtime calculations, and union-specific requirements.
Process and reconcile garnishments, union dues, RRSP/401(k) contributions, health and welfare deductions, and other statutory or voluntary deductions.
Research payroll inquiries and resolve employee, management, and stakeholder concerns with a strong customer-service focus and sense of urgency.
Prepare payroll journal entries, reconciliations, variance analyses, and reports while partnering closely with Finance on month-end and year-end activities.
Coordinate government remittances including tax filings, WSIB/WCB reporting, and other statutory obligations across applicable jurisdictions.
Participate in payroll system implementations, integrations, upgrades, testing activities, and process improvement initiatives.
Assist with audits by gathering documentation, validating records, and ensuring payroll controls and compliance standards are maintained.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve payroll accuracy, and enhance employee experience through continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
4+ years of progressive payroll experience supporting complex employee populations and multiple jurisdictions.
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is considered a strong asset.
Strong understanding of payroll legislation, employment standards, taxation, accounting principles, and payroll best practices.
Experience supporting Canadian payroll with knowledge of U.S. payroll practices and compliance requirements.
Hands-on experience with Dayforce, ADP, Workday, or similar HCM/payroll platforms.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze large volumes of payroll data and identify trends or discrepancies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain payroll concepts to employees and leaders.
French-English bilingualism is an asset but not required.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing deadlines, work independently, and maintain exceptional attention to detail.
