IT Project Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of Information Technology leadership, the IT Project Manager manages and coordinates multiple information systems projects through all phases of the project management life cycle. This position collaborates with IT, business partners, end users, vendors, contractors, and leadership on project design, analysis, training, feasibility, budgeting, scheduling, implementation, and operational readiness. This position plays a key role in facilitating clear, timely communication between Information Technology and stakeholders to align expectations, address concerns, and support successful project outcomes. The IT Project Manager works with stakeholders to establish milestones, negotiate timelines, manage scope and risk, promote stakeholder engagement, and help ensure complex technology initiatives are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational objectives.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

1.    Manages and coordinates assigned information technology projects through all phases of the project management life cycle.
2.    Provides project leadership, direction, advice, and support to IT staff, project teams, management, and client departments.
3.    Leads technology initiatives and coordinates training required for successful implementation.
4.    Works with IT leadership to develop project scope, objectives, work plans, milestones, schedules, budgets, communication plans, and success criteria.
5.    Monitors project performance and balances scope, schedule, budget, quality, resources, and client expectations.
6.    Anticipates, evaluates, documents, and manages project risks, issues, dependencies, and operational impacts.
7.    Work with leadership to establish and support project governance, adherence to standards, decision-making processes, and escalation pathways.
8.    Prepares and delivers clear project communications, status reports, recommendations, and presentations for teams, stakeholders, leadership, and steering bodies.
9.    Works with leadership to identify project team needs, establish schedules, assign ownership, and define responsibilities and controls.
10.    In collaborates with IT leadership, evaluates requests for new or modified systems and applications, including feasibility, cost, timing, compatibility, and organizational capability.
11.    Consults with users and business partners to understand current operations, clarify objectives, and document technical and functional requirements.
12.    Coordinates or performs system analysis, design, research, and fact-finding necessary to support technology solutions and project decisions.
13.    Leads stakeholder and customer support activities for project implementation, transition, and adoption.
14.    Builds stakeholder commitment and manages expectations regarding priorities, requirements, timelines, risks, and operational impacts.
15.    Collaborates with and influences IT teams, business areas, end users, vendors, contractors, staff, and management to achieve project objectives.
16.    Reviews project and operational practices and recommends improvements that support effective delivery of information systems and services.
17.    Conducts special studies and analyses, develops alternatives, gathers stakeholder input, and supports leadership decision-making.
18.    Provides strategic advice and consultation to IT and business partners regarding project leadership, implementation, and IT business processes.
19.    Partners with business stakeholders and IT leadership to develop technology roadmaps, strategic plans, training recommendations, and implementation approaches that support operational objectives.
20.    Evaluates project outcomes, delivery effectiveness, and stakeholder readiness and recommends corrective action when needed.
21.    Maintains organized project documentation, decisions, approvals, schedules, risks, issues, and other records in accordance with established practices.
22.    Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business, project management, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and related progressive work experience.
2.    Four or more years of experience in information technology, healthcare, project management, or a related business activity, including at least two years in an information technology project or leadership role.
3.    Demonstrated project management experience and ability to understand technical and functional requirements as they relate to project objectives and planning activities.
4.    Knowledge of information technology terminology, equipment, systems, functions, and major vendors.
5.    Understanding of organizational information technology environments and applicable policies, practices, and procedures.
6.    General understanding of information technology operating and capital investment budgets.
7.    Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation skills.
8.    Effective interpersonal, collaboration, and customer relationship skills.
9.    Effective analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
10.    Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks and projects concurrently with significant independence and minimal supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Master’s degree in information systems, computer science, business, project management, or a related field.
2.    Project Management Professional (PMP) or other recognized professional project management certification.
3.    Professional technology certifications relevant to the organization’s systems and project portfolio.
4.    Experience leading information technology projects in a healthcare environment.
