Position Description

Rocketship Public Schools is looking for a thoughtful, collaborative, and student centered Occupational Therapist to support students across our Milwaukee school community.

The Occupational Therapist provides school based occupational therapy services that help students access instruction, participate fully in the school environment, and make meaningful progress toward individualized goals. This role provides both direct and indirect services to students and works closely with families, teachers, school leaders, special education teams, related service providers, and network support staff.

This role is especially important in helping students with disabilities build the sensory, motor, adaptive, self regulation, and functional participation skills they need to thrive at school.

This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Services.

What You Will Do

As an Occupational Therapist, you will help students access learning, participate with confidence, and receive the individualized support they need to be successful in school.

You will:

  1. Provide high quality occupational therapy services to students across Rocketship school sites
  2. Deliver direct and indirect services aligned to Individualized Education Programs, 504 Plans, and student needs
  3. Support students with sensory, motor, adaptive, self regulation, and functional participation needs
  4. Complete evaluations and develop educationally relevant recommendations, goals, and service plans
  5. Participate in IEP and 504 meetings to share evaluation findings, student progress, and recommended supports
  6. Collaborate with teachers, families, school leaders, related service providers, and network staff
  7. Provide consultation and guidance to help school teams support students in inclusive learning environments
  8. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation related to services, evaluations, progress, and student records

 

Student Services and Support

The Occupational Therapist provides services that help students participate meaningfully in the classroom and school environment.

This includes supporting students with sensory processing, fine motor skills, motor planning, adaptive skills, self regulation, classroom participation, and functional school routines.

The Occupational Therapist monitors student progress, adjusts services based on data and team input, and helps school teams implement recommendations, accommodations, modifications, and supports.

Evaluations, IEPs, and 504 Plans

The Occupational Therapist leads evaluations related to sensory motor development, functional school participation, and occupational therapy needs.

This role includes preparing clear and compliant assessment reports, developing educationally relevant IEP goals and service recommendations, and participating in IEP and 504 meetings.

The Occupational Therapist collaborates with IEP and 504 teams to ensure student plans are appropriate, compliant, and driven by student needs.

Collaboration and Consultation

The Occupational Therapist is an important partner to students, families, and school teams.

This role includes consulting with teachers, administrators, families, special education staff, related service providers, and outside providers when appropriate.

The Occupational Therapist may also support school teams through the Multi Tiered System of Supports process and provide training or guidance to teachers, paraprofessionals, families, and school staff.

The Occupational Therapist serves as a collaborative member of the ISE Network Support Team and helps strengthen student support across the organization.

Compliance and Documentation

The Occupational Therapist maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including service logs, evaluation records, progress updates, and required student records.

This role is responsible for meeting required timelines related to evaluations, IEPs, 504 Plans, service delivery, and compliance requirements.

The Occupational Therapist maintains practice in alignment with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and professional standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • Valid license to provide occupational therapy services in Wisconsin, or ability to obtain required Wisconsin licensure prior to the start of employment
  • Strong understanding of occupational therapy practices in an educational setting
  • Ability to provide services to students across multiple school sites
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization skills and ability to maintain records, meet deadlines, and manage compliance responsibilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, teachers, school leaders, service providers, and network staff
  • Commitment to Rocketship Public Schools mission and belief in the potential of every student
  • Ability to remain flexible, adaptive, and solutions focused
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to provide transportation for work assignments, as travel between school sites is required
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with elementary students
  • Experience providing occupational therapy services in a school setting
  • Experience working with students with a range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disabilities, autism, developmental delays, and sensory motor needs
  • Experience participating in IEP and 504 meetings
  • Experience supporting inclusive practices and collaborating with multidisciplinary school teams
  • Compensation and Benefits

    The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $77,500 annually.

    Final compensation is based on relevant experience and in accordance with the applicable salary schedule for related service providers.

    Physical Requirements

    The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally climb ladders. This role requires close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
