JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Health Program Manager manages the provision of an efficient, high quality Occupational Health Program for Laboratory and Animal Research (OHP) service for University staff. This position ensures compliance with the responsibilities imposed by health and safety accrediting organizations. This position is also responsible for reducing the risk of cases of occupational injury/illness, and championing best practices in occupational health provision within the University.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans, develops, coordinates, monitors, and audits the delivery of OHP services provided to the University; ensures high quality, customer satisfaction; promotes best practice in OHP based on research, evidence, and evaluation 
• Formulates, implements, and evaluates policies/strategies for health protection and surveillance of workers to meet regulatory requirements and to promote OHP participants’ health and wellbeing
• Works in partnership with Research leadership and other appropriate professionals/agencies to provide expert guidance when OHP input is required; maintains good relationships to develop the understanding and involvement of the OHP in the support of laboratory and animal research workers
• Develops processes for gathering data for continued improvement; communicates trends and advises on action plans to meet regulatory requirements
• Responsible for the maintenance of a confidential records management system
• Contributes to the provision of training, advice, health surveillance, vaccinations, respirator physicals/fit tests, sickness absence management, investigations of cases of occupational injury/illness, and other general OHP issues
• Stays abreast of new and emerging guidance and regulations that govern OHP practice; resources for this include ACOEM (American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine), as well as the Eagleson Institute; uses evidence-based practice to guide interpretation of statutory requirements and advisory guidance to ensure the health protection of OHP participants
• Assists in creating new services for OHP participants
• Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, to include 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, 29 CFR 1904, and 29 CFR 1960
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong skills with Microsoft Office software and utilization of information systems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
• Four or more years of experience in occupational safety and health

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental health, health physics, biology, or other safety related field
• Previous experience in federal government
