Ready to start a meaningful career in healthcare? The Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy offers paid training and a direct pathway into a permanent Nursing Assistant position at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Designed for individuals with little or no healthcare experience, this program provides the skills, confidence, and hands-on experience needed to begin a rewarding career in patient care.

Participants will earn a paycheck while completing a four-week Academy that combines classroom instruction, hands-on learning, virtual learning and clinical skill development. The next Academy cohort begins November 2, 2026.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will transition into a Nursing Assistant role within the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Float Pool. This role provides the opportunity to work across a variety of patient care settings, gain diverse clinical experience, and build a strong foundation for long-term career growth within healthcare.

This is more than a training program. It's a direct entry point into a healthcare career with Allina Health. Placement into the Nursing Assistant position is contingent upon successful completion of all Academy requirements.

Candidates should be prepared to transition into a permanent 0.9 FTE Nursing Assistant position following Academy completion, including day or night shifts and every-other-weekend scheduling requirements.

Academy Pay Rate: $20.00

Training Schedule

During the four-week Academy, participants will work a 0.7 FTE Day schedule (56 hours per two-week pay period) while completing paid training that includes classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and clinical skill development.

Career Placement

Upon successful completion of the Academy, participants will transition into a 0.9 FTE Nursing Assistant position in the Abbott Northwestern Hospital Float Pool.

In this role, you will:

• Work across a variety of patient care units and populations
• Provide direct hands-on patient care
• Build experience in diverse clinical settings
• Work either Straight Day or Night shifts
• Work a 0.9 FTE schedule (72 hours per two-week pay period), including every other weekend

After successful completion permanent Nursing Assistant position will be union-represented under a collective bargaining agreement.

Job Description:

• Attend and participate in Allina Health’s Nursing Assistant Academy, with both in person and virtual learning at the Allina Commons in Minneapolis.

• Learn basic nursing skills including how to take vital signs, provide personal cares, and mobility assistance.

• After successfully completing all coursework, exams, and competencies required of the course, the trainee will be hired into a permanent Nursing Assistant position at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required principle competencies as listed on the job description

• High school diploma or GED

• Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Flat Rate: $20.00 per hour

*This position is paid on a standard non-negotiable hourly rate. Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
