The expected hiring range for this position is:

$111,400.00-$146,600.00.

About the Role:

Fermilab is seeking an NSCF Construction Coordinator for our LBNF DUNE project who will autonomously orchestrate, examine, and supervise all facets of intricate construction projects. This comprehensive role encompasses overseeing installed systems, safety management systems, quality assurance and controls systems, as well as managing project schedules and costs. Conducts thorough inspections of construction work in progress to guarantee that materials and work standards align with specifications, meeting the quality requirements outlined in the contract and complying with applicable construction codes.

What your day-to-day as an NSCF Construction Coordinator will look like:

  • Interacting frequently with Department and Divisional Management to determine specifications for project/task to be completed.
  • Creating comprehensive work submission packages for procurement execution, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Assuming a key role in creating, developing, and revising plans and specifications, providing recommendations prior to invitations for bids, with a focus on enhancing project effectiveness.
  • Holding the position of Fermilab Task Manager and Construction Coordinator (TM/CC), demonstrating responsibility in planning and supervising subcontractor workers across multiple disciplines, including managing and mentoring other developing Task Managers and Construction Coordinators as assigned.  
  • Assuming the responsibility of supervising and mentoring other developing Task Managers and Construction Coordinators on work execution, emphasizing leadership in skill development.
  • Chairs project meetings for various work disciplines, ensuring effective communication and coordination among all stakeholders.
  • Assuming responsibility for acquiring or facilitating the procurement of required materials, formulating comprehensive cost estimates, and initiating the renewal or establishment of new construction and service subcontracts.
  • Scrutinizing ongoing construction activities to ensure strict alignment with contract specifications, construction codes, and safety and quality requirements.   Will hold a supervisory role to inspect other TM/CC’s work in the field. 
  • Preparing independent cost estimates, verifying subcontractor charges, and negotiating variations from plans and specifications, displaying financial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Thoroughly reviews and negotiates variations proposed by subcontractors in plans and specifications. The role involves making informed decisions, either authorizing these variations directly or escalating them to project management when changes have a substantial impact on project design, engineering requirements, or costs.
  • Monitoring and tracking work progress to project schedules on a frequent basis to management.  Proactively resolving subcontractor scheduling problems when necessary, demonstrating a hands-on approach to project management.
  • Assuming a position of elevated authority and responsibility by coordinating construction activities with concurrent Laboratory operations. Managing critical aspects such as mobilization, construction equipment setup, utility service interruptions, traffic control, and oversight of Laboratory-provided services and equipment.
  • Assuming a supervisory role overseeing subcontractors, ensuring rigorous compliance with ES&H plans, OSHA Standards, equipment specifications, and hazard analyses. Additionally, mentors other Task Managers and Construction Coordinators (TM/CCs) in these responsibilities.
  • Supervising subcontractors' planning and quality control processes, guiding preliminary job site discussions through final acceptance inspections. Emphasizing a mentoring approach to developing other TM/CCs in executing these crucial tasks.
  • Preparing and issuing disciplinary correspondence for non-compliance with technical specifications, ES&H programs, and Quality Control activities. Simultaneously, maintains a mentorship role, fostering the growth of other TM/CCs in these areas and contributes to reports on construction concerns and work progress.
  • You may provide supervision or leadership of a team including hiring, promotions, performance reviews, training, disciplinary actions, team exits, and other duties as assigned.
  • You may perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • You will abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success: 

  • Associate degree or equivalent in related field
  • 15+ years of heavy industrial/commercial experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field with a minimum of 10+ years of heavy industrial/commercial experience.


Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of construction disciplines, including excavations, conventional construction, electrical, mechanical, and building automation
  • Thorough knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Standards
  • Thorough knowledge of FESH-M preferred, and Proven communication skills.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
